Executive Director, Guns Save Life
There are a couple of legislative moves by gun grabbers that have some gun owners and activists worried, aside from the all hat, no cattle threats from Barack Hussein to enact gun control via Executive Orders.
The first, at the federal level, is House Resolution 4269 – “Assault Weapons Ban of 2015”. Its summary is particularly telling: “To regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes.” It could be called the “Racist, Classist and Sexist Gun Grab of 2016” and we’ll tell you why: “Gun control is classist, racist, and sexist.”
We don’t support those things, of course.
Smack in the middle of the nation, we’ve got Illinois House Resolution 0855 and it also has a lot of Illinoisans worried. I’ve gotten calls, texts, email and people approaching me about the bill that they describe as “basically a gun confiscation bill”.
It’s not, but both are significant and telling on their own.
Illinois House Resolution 0855.
Synopsis As Introduced
Urges the courts, especially the United States Supreme Court, to adhere to the clear wording of the Second Amendment being a right afforded to state-sponsored militias and not individuals.
First off, HR-0855 is an Illinois House resolution, not a bill. In Illinois, legislative proposals are “bills” and advisory items (or recognition items) are “resolutions”. In other words, at best it’s symbolic and advisory. These are the same things the Illinois House passes to recognize high school and college sports teams that win championships, or symbolic recognition of causes, obscure holidays and other items.
This particular resolution was filed by Representative Chris Welch, a Democrat from Illinois’ 7th House District. Translation: He’s a Chicago Democrat. While Chris Welch isn’t a big friend of gun owners, he’s not a rabid dog that won’t listen to any reason on gun-related legislation.
Rumor has it Representative Welch filed this bill to appease some of the more vocal constituents in his district. Translation #2: Gun owners haven’t been contacting him enough to urge him to support our gun rights. Yes, Chris Welch will never vote for open carry in Illinois, but he might support limited concealed carry reforms including allowing active duty military stationed in Illinois to get a concealed carry license while they serve in the Prairie State. He might vote to approve suppressors for Illinois residents if we can show him they won’t be a problem for his Chicago constituents.
It’s worth noting that a couple of very anti-gun Representatives jumped on board as co-sponsors of the resolution within days of its filing. In recent days, both have removed themselves as co-sponsors. Ask yourself why…
11/9/2015 | House | Added Co-Sponsor Rep. Pamela Reaves-Harris |
11/10/2015 | House | Referred to Rules Committee |
11/10/2015 | House | Added Co-Sponsor Rep. Jaime M. Andrade, Jr. |
12/29/2015 | House | Removed Co-Sponsor Rep. Jaime M. Andrade, Jr. |
12/30/2015 | House | Removed Co-Sponsor Rep. Pamela Reaves-Harris |
More on why later.
U.S. House Resolution 4269.
At the federal level House Resolution 4269 – “Assault Weapons Ban of 2015” is a proposed law. Again, its summary is particularly telling: “To regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes.”
It’s got a who’s who of gun grabbers, fringe leftists and Bloomberg “bought and paid” for Congresscritters as sponsors.

From an Illinois perspective, it’s worth noting a few of the Illinois Congressional delegation listed as sponsors and their nebulous reputations.
- Tammy Duckworth is running for US Senate against Mark Kirk this year. She’s pretty hard left.
- Luis Gutierrez, aka Mr. Amnesty for all Illegal Aliens, especially Latinos.
- Robin Kelly, one of Bloomberg’s first purchased Congressmen. Bloomberg helped secure her seat with about $2.2 million in ad buys and contributions. When Michael Bloomberg calls Robin and tells her to jump, her only concerns are “How high and in which direction, Mr. Bloomberg?”
- Danny Davis, another fringe leftist Chicago Democrat, who was implicated in the Blagojevich scandal that landed Illinois’ former governor in prison. Davis won’t disavow Blago, nor will his disavow campaign support from the murderous Gangster Disciples street gang leadership. He also likes to take trips financed by others, including one to Sri Lanka purportedly financed by the Tamil Tigers. From Time Magazine: “The Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka are undoubtedly one of the most organized, effective and brutal terrorist groups in the world. They invented the suicide vest and, according to the FBI, are the only terrorist group to have assassinated two world leaders.”
HR-4269 not only bans scary guns and full-capacity magazines, it calls for immediate seizure and forfeiture of magazines, and delayed seizure and forfeiture of the firearms themselves.
Grandfathered scary gun owners would be subject to a host of expensive rules, regulations and licensing, with an eye towards ending scary gun ownership as existing owners die off. How kind of them, right?
The good news – candidly:
We’re not going to cry that the sky is falling or fund-raise among gun owners by falsely claiming that our gun rights are about to be lost unless you donate hundreds or thousands of dollars so we can lobby against these very bills here in Illinois and at the federal level.
That would be unethical as these bills are likely dead on arrival.
Gun control at the federal level is going nowhere. Yes, even with the new House Speaker Paul Ryan who is facing a near-certain primary challenge. The votes aren’t there in either the U.S. House or Senate to pass anything. That, in fact, is why President Obama finds it necessary to “legislate” on guns by executive order fiat.
In Illinois, despite the Democrats’ super-majority in both legislative houses, gun owners enjoy a very narrow, albeit it “squishy” majority in both houses. Our governor is modestly pro-gun. He’s not a proven A+, but might as well be compared to our last three rabidly anti-gun governors, two of which have served (or are serving) time in federal prison since leaving office.
When it comes to guns, the Illinois legislature is divided more by geographical boundaries than by political party affiliation. Downstate Democrats, especially from the more rural areas of the state, are staunchly pro-gun and will remain so if they hope to ever win re-election. In fact, some of gun owners’ best friends in the Illinois General Assembly are Democrats, and without the support of downstate Democrats, we would have long ago lost semi-automatics, handguns, and about everything else.
What these bills mean…
These bills are doomed to fail, but they show us where the gun control champions losers want to go. It shows us the depths and depravity of the other side. They want to lead us down the road to gun bans, gun seizures, and confiscations, which would only embolden America’s violent criminal class.
Instead of embracing the measures to more fully take advantage of the ideals voiced in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, they seek to recreate past tyrannies.
For years, they’ve told us they don’t want to take our guns.
We’ve all heard them say, “We don’t want to take away guns. We want to keep guns away from people who shouldn’t have them.” What they don’t say is that they don’t think anyone should have guns.
Now, not only are they telling us where they want to go, but they are putting it into writing.
It’s absolutely a road map to what the gun grabbers really want.
This is why you need to be engaged
These bills are prime examples of why you need to be engaged.
You need to be a member of the National Rifle Association.
You need to belong to active, engaged state or local gun rights organizations like Guns Save Life.
If you’re an Illinois resident, you need to watch the Facebook Group Illinois Gun Lobby for news and legislative information.
You should visit Guns Save Life’s website regularly for critical legislative alerts, along with news, information and analysis.
You should attend local grassroots meetings to network with like-minded gun owners and stay informed on the latest news and information. The great thing about these in-person meetings is that you can meet others, make great friends, and have your questions answered.
In Illinois, Guns Save Life has meetings in six cities each month: Chicago, Champaign, Charleston, Peoria, Pontiac and Illinois’ capital city, Springfield. Other groups have grassroots meetings as well, including the State Line Rifle Association, McHenry County Right-to-Carry Association, and others.
A modest investment of your time, energy and a few bucks to maintain valuable memberships will pay priceless rewards in terms of protecting and defending our rights for our children and their children. In short, instead of manipulating people like the gun grabbers do, you’ll be helping those who aren’t informed better understand the truth so we will all be better, smarter citizens.
Larger “contributions” in time, energy and effort will yield still bigger results.
If you’re not engaged, then you’re not helping. If you’re reading this, you’re probably engaged more than the average person, so this isn’t really addressed at you.
Yeah, I have a feeling the gun grabbin’ “losers” are gonna go for a hail mary.
Beats going after criminals, which frankly is a big part of today’s Democrat base.
Found this tonite…
“Pretty nearly every major American city lives under a thoroughly corrupt, appallingly mismanaged one-party regime, whose permanent grip on power is based on the block voting of a property-less, non-tax-paying, practically illiterate, welfare constituency, residing under what amounts to a permanent military occupation.”

While we aren’t dealing with millennia-old problems [as in the Israeli-Palestinian case], we are in fact dealing with at least fourth or fifth generation entitlement, with fatherless families, SNAP payments, welfare, “free” medical care, and so on. Just enough government largesse to keep the inner city blacks on a leash, not enough (yet) to create revolution against it. And therefore the elites get their voting bloc, which is the intended outcome all along.
But the monster this created is ugly and difficult to control. I’ve read comments about the rioters in Ferguson, to the extent that any protest against “the man” (or the state) is a good thing and they must be our ally (I’m not sure who “our” is). Such a view is a sign of lack of attention to detail, immaturity and weakness of mind. Most of the rioters in Ferguson would sooner gut you groin to throat with a knife and then rape your wife and daughter as to look at you. Anyone who feels an alliance with the rioters in Ferguson is a fool.
This is a monster the government and effete urbanite elitists created. The hive is coming apart at the seems, and the only way to keep it together is harsher and harsher stability operations. Make no mistake about it. The Chicago Mayor knows all about the tactics in use in Chicago and approves of them. The firing of the chief of police was a sacrifice to the masses.
The lesson for us is that police departments are more and more using stability operations as a model or paradigm for their work, with the approval of those in charge. As these tactics want to work their way into the fabric of American society like a cancer, one goal will be to kill the cancer before it takes over the host. This battle will be gradual, fought initially on the fields of town hall meetings, boards, blogs, and so on. If the battles are lost there, it will expand, and if lost entirely, dystopia (and maybe insurgency) will come to the American countryside.
The wars for the inner city cannot be won. America is going broke and the largesse cannot continue forever. Sooner or later, the riots will expand. The more important thing will be what happens to the medium and smaller towns of America?
What about Illinois HB4359??
That one’s a LOT closer, but at this point, its legs are a lot weaker than they were three plus weeks ago.
John
Thx… I worte my Rep about it but havn’t received any type of reply. I was thinking about sending the same email to all of the co sponsors on the list but not sure if that would be appropriate or not.
The “why I vote for Obamama ” poster is a special kind of stupid for concussion in the work place.
It’s time for all of us to take some of our non-gun owning friends out to the range and get them acquainted with shooting.
Those big smiles tell a lot after their first few shots.
You take away the unknown, and with it goes their fear of what they don’t understand. Then they are much less likely to believe Barack Obama’s demagoguery.
Thank you, John. I’ve been wondering about these.
Sam
I would love to meet Mike Day.
He is a tool of the highest magnitude.
Good stuff. Thx.
Yes, the full-court press is on.
Barely a mention about record gun sales though.
I still laugh at the Union guys that think Obama is protecting their jobs and their guns.
The true U6 unemployment figure is now over 23%. We are losing jobs at an incredible rate. the last jobs report for October and November showed over 1 million people signed up for unemployment for the very first time, yet the media reported a win for jobs
