Every year hundreds of thousands of Americans use firearms to defend themselves from attackers of one kind or another. Despite the state’s reputation as a frontier state, Colorado’s Democrats are hell-bent on disarming law-abiding citizens and, in particular, women, from being able to defend themselves with a firearm. The latest is state Sen. Evie Hudak who, at a hearing on banning concealed carry on college campuses, told rape survivor Amanda Collins that having a gun would not have done her any good. Collins had just shared her story of survival. Democrat Hudak berated her in response.
I just want to say, statistics are not on your side, even if you had had a gun. You said that you were a martial arts student, I mean person, experience in taekwondo, and yet because this individual was so large and was able to overcome you even with your skills, and chances are that if you had had a gun, then he would have been able to get than from you and possibly use it against you …
Or she could have shot him, or cornered him and called 911 to get the police to come pick him up. A pistol can be a great equalizer in the face of a threat.
This how I feel when Second Amendment advocates tell me that statistics say a state can’t go from no carry to constitutional carry.
That a right exists necessarily removes certain policy positions from the table of debate.
I wish some on “our” side would realize this.
Not unlike the way this senator treated this lady, organizations here in Illinois are treating folks with disdain.
Those so married to creating a permission slip structure here in Illinois will one day face a victim just like this lady. Someone too poor to gain a permission slip, someone unable to skip work fit “training” and “testing”, even someone simply opposed to the idea of a permission slip regarding a right, is going to be disarmed at a moment they needed to be armed the most- just like this rape victim. And when they do face just such a person, those organizations arguing today for those gun control measures will be the ones sitting in that Senators position. They will have then undeniably become that which they claimed to oppose.
One thing is for sure, I won’t ever find myself in that position because I wont attempt to trade away people’s rights in order to champion some fake compromise. I won’t be among those who gained financially from arbitrary training prequalifications that kept someone from the means to defend themselves.
I’m left to wonder why any Second Amendment advocate would set themselves up to one day be in that Senators seat and carry the burden of what this video demonstrates.
I would like to know where the Senator came up with the “statistic?” for every one rape victim that uses a gun to thwart her rape, 80+ have their guns used against them.
