The great gun-control compromise is on the ropes in the U.S. Senate, and it faces an even tougher prospect in the House of Representatives.
And for the record, in answering an AP reporter’s question regarding Guns Save Life’s position on the bill this morning, GSL’s president John Boch said, “We’re opposed to it. We need less gun control to simplify the ability of good people to get the guns they need to protect themselves from violent criminals. This particular bill has a lot of unknowns and the last thing we want is another ‘Affordable Care Act’-like law where we have to pass a bill to find out what’s in it.”
(Politico) – The tough gun-control bill that President Barack Obama wants now has little, if any, chance of passing this Congress – it’s struggling in the Senate and facing outright rejection in the House.
Vice President Joe Biden worked the phones Monday to try to salvage a bipartisan bill in the Senate but has come up short. Personal appeals from parents of Newtown victims and former Rep. Gabby Giffords haven’t worked either.
And even if Senate negotiators get to 60 votes, the House is certain to rewrite the bill – or discard it altogether.
A defeat would mean that in just five months after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, the best chance for new gun controls in 20 years is slipping away.
Note how there’s no discussion of science, logic or facts on the side of those advocating for saving this new gun control proposal. Instead, they are personal appeals from family members of those killed by an evil lunatic in a tragic happenstance.
(Yes, it was a tragic happenstance. Get over yourself. It wasn’t the Holocaust. It wasn’t the systematic genocide of scores of millions that happened in Rwanda, Cambodia, Russia, China and a slew of other tyrannical nations in the past century or so, all committed by evil governments against their disarmed people.)
It looks as though gun control may really be dead despite Obama’s best try to resurrect it while dancing in the blood of dead Connecticut school children.
With yesterdays islamic terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon, it’s a pretty safe bet that gun control will be on the back burner of the mainstream media’s attention as they strive to sell their product using the gory pictures of the injured victims and play upon the emotions of Americans.
They’ll find another tactic… if yesterday’s bombs turn out to be gunpowder-based, they’ll try to ban or highly restrict sales of gunpowder at least, and they may go after ammunition as well.
