A doctor, armed in violation of the hospital’s “no guns” policy, stopped a would-be lunatic spree killer with three shots, despite being wounded himself early in the incident yesterday in Darby, Pennsylvania.
DARBY, Pa. (MyFoxPhilly)– A female case worker was killed and two were wounded in a shooting at the Wellness Center on the Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital campus on Thursday in Darby, Pa.
The shooting happened in a 3rd floor Psychiatric office in the Sister Marie Lenahan Mercy Wellness Center, which is across the street from Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital on the 1500 block of Lansdowne Avenue.
At a 6 p.m. press conference, Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan identified Richard Plotts,49, of Upper Darby, as the suspect. Whelan says Plotts, who was a patient, arrived at the Wellness Center shortly after 2 p.m. with his case worker.
Whelan says Plotts along with his case worker went into the doctor’s office. A worker confirms he heard loud arguing at the time and walked into the office where he saw the suspect pointing a gun at the doctor, according to Whelan. The DA says the worker quietly closed the door and called 9-1-1. Seconds, later the suspect shot the case worker and the doctor.
Unfortunately for the scumbag, the doctor had his own firearm and promptly shot him back. Three times.
Local cops, upon hearing that one of those involved was an armed good guy, were reported to have responded with “Hell yea!”, “Good for him” and “the way it should to be! as they were running into the facility. It was about the only bright spot in the entire incident.
This lunatic thought he was stepping into an easy victim zone at the hospital that was proudly a “no guns” facility.
He thought wrong, thanks to a good guy who ignored a sign and its make-believe powers to repel bad guys.
It’s going to cost the doctor his job, in all likelihood, but that’s nothing compared to his life and those of the others that were saved.
Probably wouldn’t have happened in Illinois with the restrictions on FCCW and heavy penalty for violations.
Here, the bad guys tend to win in these situations; and had he been armed, the doctor would have been charged with a firearms felony.
We need to continue working to improve the IL carry laws.
Attention liberal socialist control freakin’ democrats… Here’s your SIGN !.
Good for the Doctor. We could use him in Illinois.
And then there are those of us who would face a federal felony for even keeping a gun in our privately owned vehicle while at work.
