Seems like the bad guys heard Panera Bread’s announcement that they were asking good-guy gun owners to leave their guns at home.

So, in Orange County California, near one of the Disney theme parks, bad guys stormed the place in the late evening, firing shots and relieving the store’s manager of cash receipts.

The irony is a lot more delicious than anything Panera sells.

UPDATE:  We screwed up.  The robbery with shots fired in the video below?  From 2009 in Florida.

We picked up this story and the link from The Truth About Guns…  and now it’s gone from TTAG.

The photo at the top?  That was just a google image search to go with the story.

We apologize to Panera for attributing an earlier robbery to this week.

That’s okay though.  I’m sure we’ll have a news report of another robbery at Panera/Atlanta/St. Louis Bread Company soon enough.

  1. This is why I disregard requests not to carry and any signs that a business may have posted even if the sign has the weight of law, I simply don’t care, my life and the lives of those around me are of far greater importance than the rules forced through by some punk politician or astro turf outfit such as MDA.

  2. So, Ross…
Brave words, but not too smart. You say are willing to become a criminal just to get your own way, eh? You don’t have to obey no stinking signs, eh? Get over yourself!
The appropriate response to legal signs that “have the weight of law” and ban carrying somewhere, is simply not to go there anymore (and tell them why you won’t). If you think your life is more important than any rules “forced through” by some punk politician (ie, someone you disagree with), I have to wonder how you will feel about your life and safety when you find yourself with nothing but a jumpsuit to protect you, sitting in a jail cell next to “Big Bubba” with that special gleam in his eye.

    1. Wow, It is a sad day when the fear of reprisal and chastisement by the state trumps free exercise of a Constitutionally protected right. I wonder if the Sons of Liberty thought about what would happen to them when they dumped the tea in the harbor?

    2. …it’s really to the point where we are all criminals. There’s something, I’m sure, some government agent can find us afoul of in all our lives. To operate on a holier-than-thou premise with such things as victim disarmament zones is a bit bold.

I can’t take issue with any man willing to put his, and his family’s lives, above someone else’s fantastical whim. Yes, we can make the statement that the way to deal with such signs is to not enter the places they’re posted, but often times life isn’t that simple.

I also find is strange that so many find the “lawful” signs to be a moral issue they respect, but the signs posted by property owners that hold no legal weight are, in their minds, just fine to ignore. It’s as if some nameless, faceless bureaucrat’s edict regarding your personal security is more important than respecting the personal property rights of a fellow citizen.

    3. In Indiana signs do not carry the weight of law. In other words the only thing it means is you are carrying against the wishes of the store. If you are ask to leave you have to go or be charged with trespass. I ignore the no guns allowed signs also.

    4. Personally i do the same as Ross.If no one bothers me,no one knows i have a gun.I will only pull mine when i have no choice. If i use mine to save my life, whatever happens, happens.I’d rather be alive than possibly dead.I’d rather possibly be charged than not and be 6 ft under.

    5. oldshooter, what is more important to you, some silly law about not being legally able to carry concealed or you life?

  3. I walked into Kentucky Friend Chicken today at noon and saw their sign. Handed the girl a No guns = No money card and told her to give it to the manager. She did. I left.

Spent my money at DQ instead.

Guess I’ll be going to Popeye’s tomorrow!

    John

    1. Popeye’s is a very good alternative to KFC for factory food. I’ve enjoyed their spicy chicken several times while also being safely protected in the restaurant that didn’t have a criminal-protection sign on the door.

Vote with your wallet. I’ve been told that most or all KFC stores in Champaign and Rantoul are owned by the same person, so they should at least hear our message.

  4. John,

I was looking for this story on the net and I can only find a Panera robbery in Orange County from 2013.

Are we sure the above video is from yesterday and not last year?

    -Frank

  5. Some states the signs must be of a certain prescribed requirement to mean squat and even then, the worst that will happen is a $300 trespassing fine.

  6. There is no constitutional right to carry a gun on to someone place of business when the business owner doesn’t allow it. As others have said, simply go somewhere else.

I support gun rights, but I also support property rights.

Oh, and I think Panera is stupid for doing this but that is beside the point.

    1. Wrong. Matter of fact Florida has a law on the books that prevents an employer from prohibiting employees to bring guns to work

    2. Them WHY must a bakery be court ordered to bake a cake for a lesbian couple whos relationship is against the baker’s beliefs? Are gay/lesbian rights (NOT Enumerated in the Constitution) more important than the People’s 2nd Amend. rights?

    1. The article is of the California Panera bread shooting and robbery. BUT there was a Orange County Florida Panera bread robbery and shooting as well. Just maybe the company will get a hint but I doubt it.

  7. Seriously doubt that ANY business wants private folks with guns to do their security for them, so it is immaterial to them if we carry or not.

What needs to happen is for a victim of a crime at a Panera, Krogers, wherever; to sue the snot out of Moms Demand Action for having lobbied said business so as to place them in danger. Even if the suit gets tossed, we get enough suits like this and it will add up.

  8. I’ve gotten to the point where I carry everywhere.

Concealed means concealed, even at my grand-kids’ school functions.

Yes, it’s a violation of some law here or there. Tell ya what, there’s more than a little truth to better to be tried by twelve than carried by six.

And little secret: I’ve carried for a long time. A helluva long time. And recently, it’s been legally. And thanks to recent training (which I should have taken decades ago), I feel a better and safer knowing exactly when I’m legal to pull it out, so to speak.

    Sam

    1. Good for you Sam.
I am for protecting me and mine (others if needed), seems like insanity is the rule now? I told Dillons (Kroger) what I thought and if they go ‘no guns allowed’ they will lose about $10,000 a year I spend in their grocery store.

  9. The story points to an incident in Orange County, CA. The picture shows its from KMTV. The video is from the tv station WRDQ/WFTV. Stations starting with a “W” are east coast. Those starting with “K” – west coast. Now, go to WFTV and search for “Panera shots” – link is here: http://www.wftv.com/search/?q=panera+shots

This story is from 2009. People – before we start to make an argument FOR our cause, we MUST be 100% sure of the facts. Only way we are going to beat the gun grabbers. Careless reporting like this only serves to weaken our arguments and the cause.

  10. The truth about guns is terrible website to model yours after. Your readership seems to have a basic level of intelligence. It’s throwing up these sensationalist pieces that turns websites into mindless drivel aimed at generating ad revenue. That website owner just embarrasses this culture with his content.

  11. Store owners and shops post those signs for legal liability so they don’t get sued so they can wash there hands of the problems with courts. People got to realize a individual is the only responseable for the protect of ones own life that store or business does not care plain and simple if someone else’s dies in there shop as long as it isn’t them . Wake up these gun free zones are targets plain and simple don’t do business with them and let find out the hard way let them be victims and you worry about protecting yourself and family it’s cold and hard to say those anti gun folks will not left a finger to save your life. They have insurance that will pay for the money lost or damages 2x over

  12. I would think that a news source such as yourself would confirm a story before posting it. Don’t you care about your INTEGRITY?
