Bad news for Missouri’s squishy-on-guns Democrat Governor Jay Nixon last night.  His behind-the-scenes efforts, along with the efforts of fellow Democrats, to allow him to save face on the controversial veto of a bill to keep Missouri kids safer in schools failed.  It failed spectacularly.

Almost as spectacularly as his recent inflammatory pronouncement that the police officer in the Ferguson incident be “vigorously” prosecuted when there’s no evidence of wrong-doing.

Lawmakers in Jefferson City over-rode the political hack governor’s veto of a bill that would allow trained school staff to carry.  Pre-emption was declared when it comes to open carry with a permit (so much for those pesky mish-mash of local ordinances against it), and qualified 19-year-olds can now get a carry license.

Great news for freedom!

Bad news for terrorists, Michael Bloomberg and his hired girls, and bad guys!

(Washington Post) –  …  The legislation enacted by a two-thirds majority Thursday will allow specially trained school employees to carry concealed guns on campuses. It also allows anyone with a concealed weapons permit to carry guns openly, even in cities or towns with bans against the open carrying of firearms.

The age to obtain a concealed weapons permit also will be lowered from 21 to 19 under the bill.

Note:  Other sources are saying the age for eligibility for carry licenses is now 18, not 19.  We will research this as time permits.

  1. Wisconsin is in a bit of a renaissance thanks to Scott Walker and the change of parties in their house and senate.

    Indiana’s not looking bad, either.

In fact, every state around Illinois is doing better than we are it seems.

  2. The age is 19, for Missouri resident. Missouri does honor all permits, even from Maine, were you can get a permit at 18.

  3. “It also allows anyone with a concealed weapons permit to carry guns openly,”…. Does that include non-resident permits?

  4. It just amazes me that there are still people (mostly Dems) who think we can ban guns from school to keep our kids safe.

Last time I checked, murder was banned everywhere, but it happens with (too frequent) regularity.

Then again, what do you expect from a political party who is quick to pass higher taxes on tobacco to discourage smoking….

…but who think passing higher income taxes won’t discourage working.

    Idiots.

And Jay Nixon is one of ’em.
