Guess who resigned their job today as Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant, after almost thirty years of “service”, potentially flushing his pension down the toilet?

Shawn R. Glans.  We profiled his battery of a young man who asserted his Fourth Amendment rights to be free of unreasonable search and seizure earlier this afternoon.

“You wanna f*****’ resist,” Sgt. Glans says right before he slaps the young man without provocation.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer jack-booted THUG.

What’s more amazing is this rogue cop told the local paper he’d do it again.

Asked if he would have handled the matter the same way again, Glans said he would, but not if he knew it was being filmed. He acknowledged that he did not know the incident was being videotaped.

“I was concerned. It was a public safety issue,” the sergeant said. “If I had to do it all over again … I’d probably do the same thing. If I knew the camera was there, no, because it does look bad.”

Glans, who has also worked for the South Glens Falls police department, said he was in the U.S. Marine Corps before becoming a police officer.

Oh, it gets better.  His wife tries to play the “he’s a victim” card:

His wife, Carrie, who is a medical provider, said her husband has been under a lot of emotional and physical stress and that she’s concerned how the video and any fallout may portray their family in the community.

“What my husband did and how he reacted wasn’t the correct way to do it, but there were circumstances that came about beforehand,” she said. “He’s had a very hard year.”

Hey, honey:  Your husband was a bully and he got owned.  Whose getting bitch-slapped now?

  1. How degrading for the guy that got smacked, it’s sick. I LOVE the smile on the face of the camera operator at the end, that’s the smile of a very smart boy. enjoy the $$$.

  2. And this guy has been acting this way for 30 YEARS! Wonder if others might now be willing to come forward with a few complaints.

“under color of law” rings a bell here too.

The sheriff did the right thing (this time), but you do have to question how he has employed this man for that long and not know how he abused his authority.

  3. I’m glad there was no “thin blue line” protecting this bad cop as far as the sheriff goes, but the cop that was with him should have taken action on the spot. He needs to go as well.

And any other cop who turns a blind eye to this sort of misconduct.

  4. My family had several police officers including my father they “ALL” hated Police brutality and dirty cops!
They believed their job was to keep the peace and to serve the people. slapping people around acting like dicks is not serving the people

  5. In a ‘truly free country’…”because I said so”, only works for moms and dads addressing their children…this 1 incident hopefully will awaken LEO and THEIR leadership to retrain and really understand a citizens true RIGHTS….imho

  6. While this bad cop grabs up tons of publicity, hundreds of thousands of good cops do good, honest work keeping you and me safe as reasonably possible. Thanks to them…

  7. Yea the cops nowadays. Are just legal bullies. They shave their heads. Look like executioners they approach you like your a escaped criminal. They think their shit don’t stink. Forger serve and protect. AND they can kill you and get away with it. Don’t forger that. I wonder what rights WE have protecting ourselves against. These bully cops ???

  8. He’s been getting away with it. Did you notice right before he slapped the man, the Sgt said something about the man “wanting to resist”? That’s their excuse now – they try to claim you are resisting (audio recording) to justify their action. Another video showed a suspect in a car with his hands clearly flat on the dashboard and one officer (out of several) hollering about the suspect trying to grab his gun. When they stop protecting the dirty cops, LEOs may again get the trust of the public – until then…we better keep filming.

  9. As a cop of 30 years myself, this guy is way off base. He has destroyed his career, and made everyone else who works in this field look bad. My fellow officers are disgusted by this video as well. No one wins here, and bravo to the brave kid who knew the 4th amendment better than the cop did.
There’s lots of comments above “I hate cops” and such, and it’s sad to see. I have had traffic stops with cars I just knew had contraband within them, but lacking the probable cause, let them go. To me the constitution still means something, even if your president and atty general willfully ignore it.

All I can say is that while stuff like this does happen, theres nothing sexy or newsworthy when cops do the right or compassionate or kind thing. Painting every cop, or every gunowner as the same is lazy thinking. Holding the wrongdoers accountable is how adults do things.

    1. You sound a little like my father. He would not abuse his power as a police officer. Later in life he was ashamed of officers that did.
