I knew it was going to be a good night when I saw the sign on the door of our first-ever Chicago GSL meeting venue: “Guns are welcome on premises”.
Sure enough, it was a good meeting at the Oak Lawn VFW as dozens turned out on a rainy and dreary Saturday evening for the first ever Guns Save Life grassroots meeting in Chicago!
The big disappointment of the evening? Rahm didn’t take us up on our invitation to join us for a great night of fun, fellowship and firearms rights.
That’s okay. We had a great time without him. We had guns on display, distributed over a thousand copies of GunNews that will be disseminated among the faithful in Chicagoland, and even gave away a Glock 19!
The photo at the top of the page shows half of the room – minus those folks hidden by the enormous Bear St. Pierre (“5.11 doesn’t make their pants in real man sizes,” St. Pierre quipped. “They don’t make a ‘Bear’ size.”). St. Pierre is a professional wrestler that still competes, albeit more part-time today than full-time as he did in his younger days. (We keep him pretty busy here at GSL)
At the meeting, the new GSL Chicagoland coordinator Alfreda Keller introduced herself and invited interested parties joined her after the meeting to form a steering committee of volunteers. They all did have a good post-meeting gathering and agreed to begin holding meetings on a regular basis in the central-south Chicagoland area.
The next meeting has been slated for Sunday, June 28th at the same location, the Oak Lawn VFW. Why Sunday evening? To avoid the weekday afternoon rush-hour traffic.
We’ll be working our way into a more traditional GSL meeting, with featured speakers from outside of GSL and fun and exciting programs that are upbeat and exciting.
So mark your calendars: Sunday, June 28th at the Oak Lawn VFW.

HUGE THANK YOU to those of you that made the drive, whether from near or far. Great time, good to meet some new people and help spread the word. Lots of great folks ready to hit the ground running with GSL Chicago. Spread the word folks!
Sorry I had to miss the first meeting however I will do my best to make it at the June 28 meeting
I am sorry I didn’t go. I had a minor conflict but the real reason I didn’t go was a friend went to one of the ISRA meetings and said it was a waste of his time.
I will try to be there on the 28th.
Congrats on a successful first meeting.
Congrats on a successful trip “behind enemy lines”.
God knows the folks in Chicago need positive role models. So they can see gun ownership in a positive light!
When you get big enough the media up there takes note of your meeting, you know you’ve hit the big time.
