Why does it make headline news when a Hollywood actor publicly mentions support of gun ownership and common-sense proposals to protect and defend the most vulnerable among us?

Is it because Hollywood’s beliefs are so far outside of the mainstream in America that when someone articulates mainstream beliefs, that’s cause to make headlines?

It seems to be the case as the interwebs are burning up with news that Vince Vaughn, star of the new HBO series “True Detective”, told British GQ that he was a strong supporter of gun rights.  That part of the interview has made headlines and then some.

“We have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government,” Vaughn told British GQ. “It’s not about duck hunting; it’s about the ability of the individual. It’s the same reason we have freedom of speech. It’s well known that the greatest defense against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back.”Vaughn went on to call for armed defense of children in schools, arguing elites have security for their kids and criminals ignore “gun-free zone” laws.“Take mass shootings. They’ve only happened in places that don’t allow guns,” Vaughn explained, mirroring arguments from noted gun crime researcher Dr. John Lott. “In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f***ing schools because they know there are no guns there.”

There’s no doubt that some in Hollywood will seek to blacklist Vaughn.

It’s equally certain many of those same individuals who would shun him because of his beliefs will be the first to call him if Baltimore-style riots come to their neck of the woods, seeking to borrow a gun or three.

The hypocrisy of Hollywood anti-gun celebs knows no bounds.

  1. I’d modify his comments in one minor way – the greatest defense against an intruder is to prevent the intruder from getting access in the first place. If someone manages to break in, racking your shotgun will help most intruders understand the consequences of not leaving immediately.

If someone knows Vince Vaughn’s mailing address, I’ll put up the funds to send him a complementary copy of Gun News for a year.

  2. Vince Vaughn’s career probably just took a nosedive. Let’s see how long it takes for him to start telling interviewers that GQ just took his comments out of context. Many people can say the right things and not mean any of it, just to get noticed. When Vaughn shows up at the next NRA convention as a featured speaker, then I will believe he may actually believes what he preaches.

In all reality, most of the stars and starlets in Hollywood and in the media probably do have guns in their homes – their own or those of their hired security. Like you said, “The hypocrisy of Hollywood anti-gun celebs knows no bounds.”

    1. It didn’t seem Angelina Jolie’s career took a nosedive after she stated that she felt safer with guns in the house.

    2. Honestly I think kind of perspective gives too much power to the Anti’s. Bottom line is we are taking this nation back in the most unlikeliest of places: Washington D.C., Hollywood, Detroit, even some progress in Kalifornia.

As long as we write an area of Free America off as a lost cause, it will continue to be so.

  3. I’m thinking Mr. Vaughn is either from or resides in Chicago….will research and repost.

  4. Well, I for one believe it is newsworthy when there’s an actor/actress who is found to possess intelligence outside of memorizing and delivering lines on camera.

There is a whole lot of stupid in Hollywood. A whole lot.

  5. He’s speaking out cause HE don’t need hollyweird for his lifestyle anymore. Both he and his best friend are producers themselves; they’ve now achieved that point or station in life where they don’t have to kowtow. Good on ’em! AND, furthermore, you’d be surprised how MANY people in that idiot industry are closeted constitutionalists, who must simply remain silent so they are NOT blacklisted.

  6. Both Jon Voight and Gary Sinise are quite conservative, and not quiet about it. Neither of them seem to be suffering as a result of it.

  7. Finally had some time to research. Vince Vaughn does in fact live in Chicago with his wife and two kids. Grew up in Forest Park. Not sure if someone else can sleuth and address out for him to send a copy of GunNews but worth a try. Who knows maybe he will show up to one of the Chicago Meetings!
