Uber just endeared itself with scores of millions of gun owners.

Remember, over 5% of the American population has concealed carry licenses and millions more can carry legally without them in several states.

Concealed carry licensees are better educated, earn higher incomes and are certainly more law-abiding than the average person.  But Uber doesn’t want their business.

In an announcement Friday, which they hoped would slide under the radar, they announced a ban on guns in Uber vehicles.  Because, you know, that will stop crime!

(Breitbart) – On June 19, Uber announced it has banned both drivers and law-abiding passengers with concealed permits from having guns with them for self-defense while in Uber vehicles.

This announcement comes three months after an Uber driver with a concealed carry license thwarted an attempted mass shooting by pulling his own weapon and shooting a gunman who had opened fire in Chicago’s Logan Square.

…Uber says that “drivers or riders who violate the rule may lose access to the platform.”

  1. Great business model.
Swallow the drivel shoveled at the country by a miniscule few gun grabbing organizations and MSM ignoring all the proven statistics available.
Ban the legal, licensed, and trained gun owners.
    Trample their constitutional rights.
Advertise to the criminal element Uber is gun free! yay!
Assume they will leave you alone and leave their guns at home. LOL!
Ask for more gun control when a driver or passenger is killed.
    Rinse, repeat
    They never learn….

  2. Can’t wait until Uber becomes known as the go-to service for America’s thugs. Until this story I had a favorable opinion of Uber. No more.

Should I be without wheels, I’ll walk before I support their craptastic business model.

  3. Correct me if I’m wrong, but an Uber vehicle belongs to the driver, right? They are thinking that they can tell the owner of the vehicle that he/she cannot have a gun in the vehicle?
As we’ve been told many times, concealed means concealed. So who is going to know?

  4. I believe lyft has had the same policy for a long time. They go a step farther and say no weapons of any kind and they get to decide what is a weapon. If a passenger is scared of the screwdriver you left on your floor you may get kicked from the service.

  5. Cancelled my UBER account today. Also asked (and received) instructions on how to totally remove the app from my phone. I also read how UBER tracks you even if the app isn’t active, so I wanted it completely gone.

They were polite. I asked them to reconsider the policy after some facts are in, but they didn’t respond when I asked how they will handle the liability of a CCW holder being injured at a destination, perhaps getting out of a UBER car in Chicago, because he wasn’t allowed by UBER to protect himself. Total silence…
