Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan, known to Americans as “Piers Morgan” makes it sound like America is going to hell in a handbag with gun-related violent crime.  Cleverly, of course, he makes no mention that the “no guns” nation of Great Britain has a higher rate of violent crime than America.

He suggests in an interview with the BBC (go to 2:21:00) that he’s worried that he and his family could be the victims of the next mass public massacre following the senseless attack in Columbia, South Carolina last week.

Not so fast, Piers.

Set mental disorders aside:  Would any thoughtful and prudent parent, who could afford to live wherever they want, willfully choose to live where they weren’t safe?

Piers Morgan could afford to live anywhere.  In America or Great Britain or elsewhere.

Yet he chooses to live in America.

I submit that Morgan knows the great majority America is generally quite safe.  Actions speak louder than words.

If America were really so saturated with blood from violent crime, why would Piers raise his family here?

The answer lies in crime numbers.

If one looks at the raw numbers of violent crimes, Great Britain has significantly higher incidence of violent crimes than the USA.  Nearly twice, in fact, when your compare similar crimes.

…In 2010, according to the FBI, the reported rate of violent crime in the US was 403 incidents per 100,000 people

…British police recorded 871,712 crimes against persons, 54,509 sexual offenses, and 75,101 robberies in England and Wales. Based on the 2010 population of 55.6 million, this gives a staggeringly high violent crime rate of 1,797 offenses per 100,00 people.

…Due to fundamental differences in how crime is recorded and categorized, it’s impossible to compute exactly what the British violent crime rate would be if it were calculated the way the FBI does it, but if we must compare the two, my best estimate‡ would be something like 776 violent crimes per 100,000 people. While this is still substantially higher than the rate in the United States, it’s nowhere near the 2,034 cited by Swann and the Mail.

Combine the significantly higher rates of violent crime with Great Britain’s effective ban on firearm ownership and self-defense, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why Piers Morgan is raising his family in America.

  1. Piers is an insufferable douchebag.

I’m surprised he’s not on some also-ran sports channel with some sports commentary show like another insufferable douchebag who also had his crappy TV show cancelled, Keith Olbermann.

Is is any wonder the establishment cable news networks are all teetering on the edge of bankruptcy? If it weren’t for the fees paid to them by the cable companies to carry their channels, they would already be gone. Hell, half their “viewership” is hotel lobbies with the TV on in the background.

  2. Of course Piers is a hypocrite. Isn’t that pretty much de rigeur with moonbat libs?

    1. Cowards are all they are in my opinion!
They do not stand up to protect their loved ones or others. They want someone else to be there to protect them. That is why they have body guards and say just dial 911, that way someone else can take care of you.
      In their world of thought,
If a kid is bullying a student at school, tell the teacher.
The teacher is to tell the ‘Authorities’ of the bully at school.
The police cannot do anything as the child [regardless of age] is miss understood, had a bad upbringing.
Seeing no downside to their actions, keeps trying more and more to see how far he can get away with.
Then we are faced with someone who attacks without fear.
The Police will come and collect evidence, hopefully you and yours survive.

  3. DEAR EDITOR:

You realize you quoted (via a link) a complete Anti-gun hit piece? He trashes Ben Swann, quotes other anti-gun websites, and generally injects his anti-gun slant into every sentence.

    What gives?
