Violent Englewood on South Side had no shootings July Fourth weekend
Residents in the Englewood police district celebrated the Fourth of July weekend like most in Chicago.
Some had barbecues. They listened to music. Children rode their bicycles up and down their South Side blocks and played basketball in the middle of the street.
But what stood out was this: Not a single person was shot there during the long holiday weekend, a rare feat for an area long known for its rampant and stubborn [Editor: gang-related] gun violence.
Now, for the rest of the story: There were hundreds of cops patrolling the roughly 3 square mile area known as Englewood. All weekend. Englewood, population 30,000, has a median annual income of under $20,000 but they have an amazing number of rap artists, per wiki. Some of their notable rap artists are even still alive.
Meanwhile, while half of the on-duty cops of Chicago PD were patrolling Englewood, we discover what life is worth elsewhere in Chicago with fewer cops per square mile thanks to diverting extra resources to Englewood. Chicago “culture” at its finest. NBC Chicago shares (caution, video auto plays):
A Chicago man shot and killed his longtime friend over the July Fourth weekend because the pal touched his Cadillac, Cook County prosecutors said Tuesday.
John Watley was angry that Anthony Strong and others were touching his car Sunday, so he went back inside his Calumet Heights home in the 9200 block of South Harper Avenue, returned with a machete and told everyone to get away from his ride, Assistant State’s Attorney Enrique Abraham said.
Most of the crowd walked away from the parked vehicle but 48-year-old Strong, who had been drinking with Watley and other neighbors earlier, started drumming his fingers up against the Cadillac, Abraham said.
Watley, 58, went back inside his house.
When Watley came back outside, Strong continued drumming on Watley’s car, Abraham said.
“Mother——, you keep messing with me,” Watley yelled before he fired at the friend he had known for over 40 years, Abraham said.
A bullet went straight to Strong’s chest.
As Strong’s wife came to his aid, Watley allegedly said, “Let that mother—— die.”
Yep. Friend of the year right there.
Of course Chicago Police Superintendent sobered up enough to proclaim the problem was guns! Guns were the cause of this mayhem and what Chicago needs is more gun control!
If gun control worked, Chicago wouldn’t have this problem.
No, what Chicago needs is more gun ownership, not more gun control.
Those blue eyed blonde Germans are at it again.
Damn Canadians come down from Canada and commit all sorts of trouble then melt away north of the border.
Or so it seems.
The, and those damn Amish buggy drivers.
