To four juveniles in St. Paul, Minnesota, that probably seemed like good odds to pull off an armed robbery.
Unfortunately for a 16-year-old dope-smoking, gun-toting, aspiring thug named Lavauntai Broadbent, his victim selection process was fatally flawed.
See Lavauntai picked a pair of victims where the male half had a concealed carry license, and his victim knew how to use his gun.
So when a masked and gloved up Lavauntai led the charge brandishing a pistol, he got himself shot down like a rabid dog.
His parents submitted this picture to the media.

Of course, the family denies any gang affiliation, despite an abundance of evidence to the contrary.
In May, Broadbent pleaded guilty to third-degree riot/crime committed for the benefit of a gang, according to the Ramsey County attorney’s office. He was sentenced in Dakota County; information about the outcome wasn’t immediately available Monday.
In fact, his family says he was a member of the DINDU NUFFIN clan:
Broadbent’s family regarded him as sweet and funny, but said he had also become “messed up with the wrong crowd,” according to Shawn Distad, a family friend whom Broadbent called “Auntie.”
“He did silly stuff, but nothing to hurt anybody and that’s what’s really confusing about this, if it is true, that he did go to rob somebody,” Distad said Monday. “That’s not his character. He was a loving kid.”
To a second media outlet she elaborated:
Broadbent’s mother, Leeann Broadbent, said Monday that her son didn’t “have that kind of heart” to pull a gun on someone.
Broadbent, who was going into his junior year at Henry Sibley High School in Mendota Heights, was active in sports and had started getting “in a little trouble here and there, but nothing like this,” his mother said. “If someone pulled a gun on him, he would have dropped [his]” rather than shoot.
The Star-Tribune deleted the following from their story:
“Why did you have to shoot him?” questioned Jose Montez, Broadbent’s brother. “You couldn’t give him a second chance to live?”
And at a community vigil to mark the passing of this violent criminal predator, more drama unfolded, per the Star-Tribune:
He did confirm that on Sunday night, a car drove off the street just before midnight into Shadow Falls Park, where some people had gathered for a vigil for Broadbent. Shots were fired, and the suspects fled on foot because their vehicle had struck a concrete planter. It’s unclear where the shots were fired from, Linders said, but no one was hit.
Four men and a juvenile male were later arrested in connection with the Sunday shooting, which remains under investigation.
In short, good riddance.
This is why it is a good idea to strap on your legally possessed concealed carry gun even though you think you probably won’t need it.

Lavauntai defenders and apologists need to understand something: Concealed carry is now in every state with more and more people training and carrying every day.
If you are going to do something “stupid”, like an armed robbery, then you run the risk of facing an armed citizen who can/will defend himself.

Maybe there should be a unit in Jr high and high school social studies and or government class explaining that concealed carry is the law of the land in all 50 states. First to the GSL members and gun rights supporters, please don’t let these posts by young, inarticulate folks bring you down to their level. This is NOT who we are and how we go about things. Please take the high road.
To the others that are obviously not part of GSL or gun rights supporters: Life is all about the choices you make. I would hope that some of you have learned that the choice your friend made to try and rob and victimize someone cost him his life. Not one single person on this forum made him do it. Not one single person on here pulled the trigger. These are facts. The other facts are your friend tried to rob another person while wearing a mask and gloves with a pistol. Does this portray a “sweet, innocent, and caring” person? No, it does not. Your use of foul language, lack of grammar, punctuation, and otherwise derogatory comments make the situation worse. I’m sorry your friend is dead. All of has have experienced loss in our lives, but to turn someone who was living and portraying a thug/criminal lifestyle into a martyr is just wrong, always. There is an old saying, “when you play with fire, you get burned.” Young Mr. Broadbent got burned. Don’t fall victim to his circumstances.
I would hope that some of this young man’s friends will take this as a life lesson. If you choose to live the life of a criminal, then you run the risk of dying like a criminal. Instead of putting the energy into a poorly written, foul language post,or crying the “black lives matter cry” maybe use that energy to go back to school or find a job. Choose to make better choices in your own life rather than blindly following what those around you are doing. Choose to stay in school. Choose to not smoke dope, or do any drugs. This whole recent surge of “black anger” and related civil unrest/riots/looting/arson/violence at criminals getting shot down by police and citizens is having an impact on our society, but I suspect it’s not what you and the “Black Lives Matter” folks think it is.
These racially charged events are galvanizing the Joe and Jane Sixpacks of all ethnic backgrounds into taking action in their personal lives. Yes, even successful African-Americans are included in that.
This senseless violence is scaring average, everyday Americans who aren’t gun owners into becoming gun owners. They see the police as being unable or unwilling to protect innocent people from roving gangs or marauding thugs.
Everyday Americans, formerly ambivalent or maybe even leaning against guns and gun ownership, are going out and buying guns, literally in record numbers, and getting carry licenses, again in record numbers.
About 13,000,000 Americans have carry licenses now and millions more live in states that no license is required to carry. More and more of these folks are carrying everyday.
Why is that?
Because they recognize the only thing that stops a bad person with evil in their hearts – a bad person like Lavauntai – is a good guy with a gun.

May I just say a thing for once, while I may have not known Manman very well, I did see him around school and I knew who he was and what he stood for. And before you start talking about my school, let me tell you that sibley is one of the best schools out there, it’s what you make it and people don’t make it out to be what it’s worth. Although many people may call him a “little thug” just please know that he had a great heart. I know you may question this statement and his life choices but I know for a fact that he would have never pulled that trigger. I know for a fact that his intentions with that gun were not to kill but to scare and I know that people will argue “but he had a gun, he was known for doing bad things” but This kid was still trying to figure himself out. He was 16 and nobody knows who they really are at 16. He was trying things out and although robbery is terrible none the less, he had no guidance to tell him otherwise. He was a good kid with a good heart just trying to fit in. He was turning himself around and I know that many people will struggle with his loss. A fight broke out after the funeral Thursday for a 16-year-old shot by a man he reportedly was trying to rob at gunpoint in St. Paul, police said.
People gathered at Cherokee Park after Lavauntai Broadbent’s service started fighting among themselves, and one mourner was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
Officers were on alert Thursday because shots were fired during a memorial two days after the death of Broadbent, who police believed was a gang member. No one was injured in that case, which police said occurred when someone mistook a car for a rival gang member’s and opened fire.
Broadbent of West St. Paul died July 31 in St. Paul’s Shadow Falls Park at Summit Avenue and Mississippi River Boulevard. A man who’d gone to the bluffs to watch the blue moon that night said that a male wearing a mask and gloves pointed a handgun at him and demanded he empty his pockets, in what police described as a random act of violence. The man, who has a permit to carry a gun, shot the robber, later identified as Broadbent.
The man told police he feared for his life and that of a woman nearby. Police have said the man has cooperated with the investigation, and they presented the case to prosecutors Friday.
“Just like any other case, we’ll review it to see if any charges are warranted,” said Dennis Gerhardstein, Ramsey County attorney’s office spokesman. He didn’t know how long the review would take.
After Broadbent’s funeral Thursday at Summit Church, 845 Summit Ave., people gathered at Cherokee Park on the West Side. Officers were called to the park about 7:40 p.m. on a report of a large fight, a police report said. Police found a crowd gathered by an ambulance as paramedics were trying to get a 23-year-old assault victim inside, said Steve Linders, a St. Paul police spokesman.
The man had been assaulted at the gathering and had visible injuries to his face but was pulling away from paramedics, Linders said.
Police moved the crowd away from the ambulance, and the victim was taken to Regions Hospital, Linders said. A friend reported seeing a crowd gathering around a fight and the victim on the ground, nearly unconscious. No one has been arrested in the assault, and police are investigating, Linders said on
Friday.
About 200 people were in the park after the victim was taken to the hospital, and officers stayed in the area because fights and skirmishes were breaking out, Linders said. Officers dispersed the crowd, he said.
Earlier Thursday, officers patrolling the area around Broadbent’s funeral found a man they’d been looking for in a July 26 shooting that wounded a 22-year-old man in the 800 block of Burr Street, Linders said. Police arrested the 21-year-old man about 1:30 p.m. at Avon Street and Holly Avenue, a few blocks from Broadbent’s funeral, which ended about that time.
Family friend Shawn Distad said the funeral itself was beautiful. She estimated a couple of hundred people attended. Broadbent’s family is “holding in there as best as can be,” Distad said. She said she’d been unaware of the fight later in the day at Cherokee Park.
Police are sorting out what happened Aug. 2 during the shots-fired incident at Broadbent’s memorial at Summit and Mississippi River Boulevard. Police have said someone in the crowd saw a vehicle approaching, mistook it for a rival gang member’s and opened fire. It turned out the car was driven by a friend bringing music to the vigil, police said previously.
A search warrant filed by police this week said a 1998 Mercedes with no license plates pulled up to the group at the memorial and fired shots at family members near the monument. The Mercedes struck a light pole, water fountain and brick garden. Three males left the vehicle, fired more shots, ran away, and officers didn’t find them, the search warrant affidavit said.
Police have been investigating conflicting reports about whether people on two sides were shooting and, if so, who fired first, Linders said.
Broadbent was going into his junior year at Henry Sibley High School in Mendota Heights. Those who knew him said he was popular and loved to make people laugh, but had been hanging out with “the wrong crowd.”
Broadbent was on supervised probation at the time of his death, after pleading guilty in May to third-degree riot/crime committed for the benefit of a gang.
In April, officers had been called to a downtown St. Paul hotel and saw 50 to 100 juveniles running away. Police reviewed surveillance videos, saw juveniles punching and throwing items at each other, and recognized numerous rival gang members, the petition said.
Broadbent had denied to police that he was a gang member, saying he only hung out with them, according to the petition.
Conditions of Broadbent’s probation included that he have no contact with known gang members or participate in gang activity, and take part in cognitive skills training.
The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office has charged four teens they say were with Broadbent on July 31 with aiding and abetting robbery and vehicle theft.
The group had been traveling in a car that had been stolen with its owner’s two guns inside. Broadbent robbed a man at gunpoint about 4:40 that morning at a bus stop at Maryland Avenue and Barclay Street, the teens later said.
The robbery that Broadbent attempted, and ended in his death, occurred about 10:25 that night.
Ya the twin cities police do not do anything with guns, drugs, violence on any form of social media. I have personally been robbed in North Minneapolis, reported to the police. Nothing has been done, he is still free and on the streets. I’ve even went as far as reporting his social media pictures with guns pointed at the camera and they do absolutely nothing.
