Guns Save Life gets results where others can’t or won’t.  We proved it once again just last weekend.

With .22 caliber ammunition almost impossible to find in decent quantities, the even coordinator the Big Sandy Spurs Crazyhorse Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation asked Guns Save Life for help.  They needed rimfire ammo or many of the shooting components of the program would be dropped.

Our members came through, allowing GSL to provide valuable ammo for this year’s program at Chillicothe, IL.  It was done at no charge as a grant of sorts – all 2750 rounds – allowing scores of women to learn and practice new shooting skills.

GSL has kept them in ammo for the past two years, to the tune of about 5,000 rounds total, and we’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from past participants.

Here’s what the program is all about.  If you would like to participate next year, contact our people at any Peoria Guns Save Life meeting.

Chillicothe, Ill.  (East Peoria Times Courier) – The Big Sandy Spurs Crazyhorse Chapter of Women in the Outdoors will host an event from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Chillicothe Sportsman’s Club in Chillicothe.

“Our program is about encouraging women to try new outdoor activities in a safe environment that makes them feel at ease,” said Brenda Valentine, the National Wild Turkey Federation’s new spokeswoman and First Lady of hunting. “This event is also an opportunity for women of all walks of life — singles, moms, daughters, young and old — to spend a weekend outdoors, away from home, having fun and making new friends.”

Since 1998, the NWTF’s Women in the Outdoors program has organized events designed especially for women.

By providing expert instruction and hands-on education, the NWTF helps members develop skills and emphasized the importance of wildlife management and the role of hunters in conservation.

The combination of sponsorship and local chapter support allows the NWTF to offer these programs at a low cost to participants.

The cost of attending the event includes a membership in the Women in the Outdoors program and a subscription to Turkey Country, a magazine that encompasses all activities sponsored by the NWTF. It is a magazine that has six issues per year, with articles and information on various outdoor adventures and activities.

“The Women in the Outdoors program allows the NWTF to reach an entirely new audience, one that has the potential to benefit conservation efforts,” Valentine said. “It’s an opportunity for women to find great satisfaction and enjoyment in the outdoors.”

The event planned in Chillicothe will be offering courses in: handguns, rifle shooting, trap shooting, outdoor cooking, fishing, line dancing, outdoor photography, canoe and kayak, mantrailing, animal calls and scat ID, archery, tree identification, self-defense, Tomahawk throwing, mushrooms year-round, yoga, bear adventure, gun cleaning, beekeeping, and pottery.

Edit:  Thank you for pointing out the headline fail.

  1. Editor fail. Headline reads “large Women in the Outdoors”. We know what was meant but could have been worded better.

  2. MEh, methinks JB actually LOOKED at the pic before he put that in intentionally.

On another note, anyone know who the slender beauty front and center is? If so, I am available to her!

  3. Good work and thank you!

If only the other gun rights people in Illinois were half as philanthropic as GSL!
