Counting Bullets Doesn’t Add Up to Justice

(American Thinker) – In 2014 Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke shot Laquan McDonald sixteen times with his service pistol as the armed hoodlum jogged down a city street slashing tires and brandishing a knife. A year later, California police shot nearly 400 rounds with high powered rifles at the San Bernardino killers in a brief close range gun battle in nearby Redlands, California. Assuming that just one bullet in twenty hit Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, they took as much or more lead as McDonald. The obvious objection to this comparison is that in the second case the criminals were heavily armed terrorists who had just committed mass murder, while in the first, the criminal was a drugged-out teenager, who had yet to injure anybody. But while the cases are substantially different in the severity of police provocation, they are orders of magnitude dissimilar in outcome with respect to the police officers involved.
Ya think? The difference is there’s no “Muslim Lives Matter” movement.
…The indictment of Van Dyke for first-degree murder raises fundamental questions of fairness and justice, when a veteran police officer acting against an armed and drugged defendant is charged as if he were a local gang-banger for making a split second decision in the line of duty.
Uh huh. However, any first-year law student should be able to make the case under current jurisprudence of the officer’s innocence to the charges leveled.
More broadly, along with similar cases, the rising risk of terrorism, and pressure of leftist protest movements (like Black Lives Matter) it raises questions of how police are to function in today’s political environment.
Well, cops in many cases are taking a much more passive attitude towards law enforcement, particularly when it comes to blacks. This “Ferguson Effect” has proven very deleterious to black neighborhoods and communities across the nation. This “hands off” approach of cops has led to a massive spike in homicides and other violent crime in those areas.
It is only a matter of time before the mainstream media and leftist politicians start questioning the conduct of police in shootouts like the one in Redlands, where police bring overwhelming firepower against terrorists. This has already happened in Israel (which largely serves as the West’s canary in the proverbial coal mine) where Israeli authorities have been criticized for inflicting “excessive force” losses on murderous Palestinian Arab terrorists little who are little different from Farook and Malik. Along with the left’s continued attempts to confuse terrorism with so-called “gun-violence” and to restrict rather than expand citizens’ Constitutional carry rights (as recently happened in Virginia) we may remain a reasonably well-armed nation, but legally unable to defend ourselves.
That’s because the Left is all about “control” when it comes to everyday people, including the police that maintain law and order.
And as a direct contrast to overcharging police who use deadly force in defense of innocent life, the Left busies itself dropping or reducing charges against those who attack police.
Feds Reduce Charges for Illegal Alien Who Viciously Attacked Border Patrol Agent
MCALLEN, Texas (Breitbart) — A Salvadoran illegal alien who brutally attacked a U.S. Border Patrol agent has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges in federal court. The lesser charge carries a lesser sentence.
This week, 36-year-old Jorge Alexander Garcia Murgas went before a U.S. magistrate judge and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge. In November, Garcia had been charged with a felony charge of assaulting a federal officer, for choking, beating and trying to take an agents handgun. Court records don’t show the sentence that Garcia received.
The assault took place on November 26, when a U.S. Border Patrol identified by prosecutors only as A.M. spotteda group of illegal aliens near a canal in the border city of Penitas, court records obtained by Breitbart Texas revealed. When agent A.M. and other agents tried to approach the group, the illegal aliens began to run away in an effort to avoid capture.
The agent caught up with 36-year-old Jorge Alexander Garcia Murgas and ordered him to stop but when he moved to arrest him the illegal alien began to fight back. The agent managed to get one handcuff on Garcia, but the man twisted out of the hold and reached for the agents gun as the two men wrestled over the holstered firearm.
The agent was able to roll on top of Garcia and get his hands of the weapon, however the illegal alien then grabbed reached for the agent’s night vision goggled and began to use the straps to choke him. The agent is quoted in court records stating that he felt the chord from the goggles digging into his windpipe thus cutting off his air. Eventually the agent was able to get the goggles off and subdue Garcia.
Attack a cop, grab for his gun, and try to strangle him and Barack Obama’s Attorney General will charge you with a misdemeanor.
It’s not just at the federal level.

CHICAGO (Arcamax) — Cook County prosecutors dropped charges Wednesday against a protest leader arrested in the Loop hours after the release of the video showing a Chicago police officer fatally shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.
Malcolm London, 22, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, a felony, after he allegedly struck an officer at a protest rally, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Malcolm London was pictured punching a cop. Malcolm punch left the cop with a black eye. And Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez dropped all charges.
After all, Malcolm London remains a darling of the Left.

A righteous man would say something about the goose and gander, instead of mindlessly, blindly supporting a cop who murdered a kid.
I don’t want to hear about “blading” or whatever the term is. That video is DAMNING.
@Ken, I think we are on the same page, but correct me if I’m wrong. The officer who shot McDonald did in fact use excessive force. It should only take a single JHP to neutralize the threat. Shooting him 16 times is ridiculous. Aren’t officers supposed to go for non lethal tools first, i.e. Pepper spray or a taser? According to the report he had a bladed weapon not a firearm, so imo that should be a situation were it is possible to use the non lethal means of de-escalation. I very much respect oath keeping officers, we need more of them. Guys who go berserk on suspects give a bad reputation to the rest of the department and cops in general.
I’d like to see you guys go up against someone with a knife who is maybe only a second away from you, and likely loaded up on some kind of drug.
Have you ever watched any of the Cops shows where they are tasering the suspect or using mace, and it does practically no good? Is that what you would want to rely on if it were your life that was on the line?
I’m with KK, and not all LEOs carry tasers, also they are taught to shoot center mass.
