Manchester, NH Union Leader

The good Lord made man and woman.

Sam Colt made them equal.

Such was the case in Manchester, NH, where a 23-year-old punk tried to rob a 65-year-old grandmother coming home from her job near midnight.   The woman, who stands 4′ 11″ and weighs literally a buck o’ five, observed a vehicle following her and was in condition orange as she exited her car after parking close to her building.

The shady vehicle parked nearby and she heard footfalls coming up behind her.  She grabbed her gun and moments later was confronted by a young, 5’11” 200-pound man who tried to grab her purse.  She didn’t surrender her purse, but she did share some hot, .32 caliber lead.

The bad guy Michael Bontaites, pictured above, fell to the ground after taking one to the chest.

The diminutive senior made it into her building and called police, who arrested the guy who brought Mr. Bontaites to the hospital for charges of a felon in possession of a deadly weapon – in this case a knife.  Mr. Bontaites will also be a guest of the local gray-bar hotel soon as well.

Here are two stories – initial and the interview with the victim.

  1. It’s hard to second guess such a great story, but if she’d only fired twice or three times, taxpayers might not be on the hook for a half-mil or more to house this mope.

Or we need to get her a .45 auto with some big-assed hollow points.

I seem to recall someone called .45 JHPs as “flying ashtrays”.

    That’s what that woman needs.

  2. You missed this, John:

Earlier, she took calls from Mayor Ted Gatsas and Police Chief Nick Willard. She said Willard asked if she felt OK being unarmed because police took her weapon for evidence. Not to worry, she told him, her neighbor had lent her one of his.

LOL. Like a good neighbor… A gun owner is there!

Where have I seen that before?

Nice job, lady. Double kudos to the neighbor!

  3. The big, bad thug meets his match in a .32. Who would have thought empowerment could come in such a small package?
