Suppressors

No joke.  Iowa has joined 41 other states that recognize citizens’ rights to own and use mufflers on their guns.

C’mon Madigan and Cullerton.  Your opposition to this legislation in Illinois has no legitimate basis.

IOWA: SUPPRESSOR OWNERSHIP AND HUNTING NOW LEGAL

At 3:00 PM on Thursday, March 31st, Governor Terry Branstad signed House File 2279 into law, officially making Iowa the 42nd state to legalize the private possession of suppressors. Effective immediately, the new law also makes Iowa the 39th state to allow for the use of suppressors while hunting.

“The legalization of suppressors in Iowa is a tremendous victory for the law abiding citizens of The Hawkeye State,” said Knox Williams, President and Executive Director of the American Suppressor Association. “For the past three years, the ASA has worked alongside the Iowa Firearms Coalition, the National Rifle Association, Rep. Windschitl, and, this year, Rep. Baxter to get this legislation passed so that the sportsmen and women of Iowa could use these benign accessories to protect their hearing while in the field and at the range. We are incredibly excited that Iowa is now one of 42 states that allows suppressor ownership, and one of 39 states that allows their use while hunting.”

  1. Illinois has been behind the curve for years. It reflects in our gun laws, our debt, our entire economy and mindset in Springfield. With concealed carry there is a new movement for suppressors for indoor shooting ranges for self defense practice. Good luck in this endeavor

  2. Education is the key to enlightenment (and empowerment).

Liberalism flourishes among the less educated… and those with too much spare time and an easy life.

  3. I was part of the team that went to Springfield to get suppressors legalized for use by law enforcement special operations teams in Illinois (Public Act 97-0676) in 2012. If anyone trying to get this passed for public use wants information concerning how we approached the legislature on this, email me. I would love to help.

  4. Suppressors are a class 3 device. A gun shop needs a class 3 FFL to sell them and you need a special permit to buy one. You also may have to raise the sights on your firearm to see over the tube. And they are heavy, which affects the balance of the gun. Other than “coolness”, what is the advantage?
