A University of Chicago Crime Lab study has found (surprise!) that criminals don’t get their guns from gun shops, gun shows or the Internet.
Cough. I told you so!
And we’re listening for the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence to cover the results of this study.
Can you hear them?
A new study conducted by the University of Chicago Crime Lab, inmates in the Cook County jail said they get they guns on the streets from “personal connections” rather that outlets like guns shows and the Internet.
The study focused on “inmates who were facing gun charges or whose criminal background involved gun crimes.”
According to the Chicago-Tribune, Crime lab co-director Harold Pollack said the study shows that “some of the pathways [regarding guns] people are concerned about don’t seem so dominant.” He said very few inmates indicated using gun shows or the internet. Rather, they get the guns in undetectable ways on the street. He said the inmates know they run the risk of being caught by police but “were less concerned about getting caught by the cops than being put in the position of not having a gun to defend themselves and then getting shot.”
And WHY aren’t criminals concerned about getting caught by cops in Illinois?
Because Cook County State’s Attorney oftentimes won’t prosecute perfectly good cases, and even if she does, the gun-toting criminals will be out in days or weeks, not decades like in Florida. Ditto for much of the rest of the state. Even if they are sentenced, prison time in Illinois is like dog years in reverse.
This is why Florida has the lowest rate of firearm violent crime in history – and Chicago has uncontrolled violent crime.
No kidding! So a place of higher learning discovers the truth. I wonder of they will be honest and support the 2A?
A lot of the guns in criminal hands are legally purchased and then illegally transferred – straw purchases. The bad guys go to family members, girl friends, etc. who purchase the guns legally.
Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Reitz (and apparently her counterpart in Chicago) don’t seem to be interested in prosecuting the straw purchasers.
There is a solution to this problem – Ms. Reitz is up for election in November. I believe George Vargas (military vet and attorney) is running against her.
“Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Reitz (and apparently her counterpart in Chicago) don’t seem to be interested in prosecuting the straw purchasers.”
WHY, you ask? Because this goes counter to their agenda. If they prosecute these, it shows that disarming lawful gun owners isn’t going to do anything to stop the problem of bad guys and guns.
Let’s correct this problem at the ballot box! Ms. Reitz is up for election in November. Vote her out of office. We need a state’s attorney that will prosecute these straw-man, illegal transfer transactions.
In other shocking news: criminals get their illegal drugs through those same illegal methods. Way to go UCHI, you’re now at the forefront of the Progressive education system.
chicago blood bath continues as it does c-u rantoul. gun violence? how about just gang violence. might be time for the army to clean up all three communities as court will not and police are lost sheep.
