With all that has gone on in the news with respect to violent crime, alleged racism and protests recently, it’s easy to miss the stories of heroism.
One such story was almost missed entirely by the mainstream media. On May 29th, 2016, Byron Wilson a licensed concealed carrier, encountered a man engaging civilians and police with a rifle in West Houston, TX.
Police: 212 rounds fired in Houston mass shooting
HOUSTON (USA Today. Caution video autoplay) — Houston Police released new details about Sunday’s mass shooting in west Houston during a press conference Tuesday.
According to investigators, the suspect, Army veteran [scumbag’s name redacted], fired 212 rounds during the rampage that left two dead and six wounded in a neighborhood off Memorial Drive.
Police say that [scumbag’s name redacted] came to Texas from California and arrived on Saturday to see some friends. They believe that the shooting location was random.
Friends said [scumbag’s name redacted] served in the Army in Afghanistan and had suffered PTSD.
Police said they believe [scumbag’s name redacted] broke in to Memorial Drive Tire & Auto and stayed there the day before the shooting. Police said he intentionally turned off his phone and “went off the grid” at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Police said [scumbag’s name redacted] came out of the tire shop and confronted customer Eugene Linsomb and shot him. Linscomb died at the scene. The suspect then retrieved an AR-15 and shot at passing cars and police vehicles. He struck a line to a gas station, which then caught fire, police said.
“We believe his military training and his location, he felt safe there,” said Lt. John McGalin. “Had access to three corners. Didn’t have to worry about anyone coming up behind him. There just seems to be no rhyme or reason to why he picked that location.”
John Wilson, who was initially believed to be a second shooter, was a resident in the area and came out to offer assistance. He was outgunned by the suspect and was shot in the leg. He is expected to survive.
Mr. Wilson chose to engage this would-be mass killer with his own pistol, distracting the suspect from his initial targets, but took three hits himself in the process. The rampaging lunatic was eventually killed by police but Byron Wilson was left to recover from serious injuries, having been shot in both legs and one shoulder.
It is thought by his doctors that Wilson may not be able to walk again for another two years and of course this will incur a great deal of medical expense. A Go Fund Me account has been set up as an opportunity for those who appreciate Byron Wilson’s brave actions to help defray the costs of his treatment and recovery as well as support for his wife and child. Several other police officers were injured and one non-LEO victim was killed in this attack.

Hero Concealed Carrier Who Battled Mass Shooter Faces Long Recovery
Tuesday we told you the story that the mainstream media wanted to ignore: though heavily outgunned, a concealed carrier by the name of Byron Wilson valiantly engaged a mass shooter* armed with a rifle, allowing his fellow citizens to escape. Wilson was shot three times during the battle, and now faces another battle: recovering from his injuries
Friends of a Houston man who grabbed his gun and tried to stop a shooter who terrorized a Houston suburb Sunday are rallying to his side, and praising him as a hero.
Byron Wilson was shot three times, twice in the legs and once in the shoulder, while trying to stop the rampage of D__ G__. Wilson engaged G__, before getting wounded, then managed to crawl to a nearby business and call his wife. He faces a long recovery and an uncertain future, according to friends, who have launched a GoFundMe page to help him pay his medical bills.
“The generosity and kind words [are] overwhelming for the Wilson family,” Angie Guerra wrote on the online appeal she set up for Wilson and his family. “On their behalf, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating and sharing.”
A close friend of the family, Guerra told local news station KHOU said that Wilson and his wife were trying to start a business before the incident and now find themselves facing mounting medical bills.
The GoFundMe page set up on behalf of the Wilson family notes the staggering injuries Wilson sustained when he stepped forward to defend his fellow Americans.
May 29, 2016 began with Byron Wilson being a loving husband, father, and son, and it ended with him as a critically injured victim, with his picture being shown all over the news. Byron was shot three times, while attempting to stop the mass shooter in West Houston on Memorial Drive.
He may very well have prevented more shootings, in effort to stop the shooter and distract him. Unfortunately, now Byron is in the hospital, severly [sic] wounded with both legs shot and broken, and the third bullet wound in the shoulder. He has already undergone multiple surgeries, and he has many more to go. His road to recovery is very long, and he may not be able to walk again for two years.
Folks, men like Byron Wilson, who selflessly risk their lives to save others by stepping into a fight that they know they have no realistic chance of winning are among the best of us. They are heroes in the truest sense of the word.
Please share his story of bravery and selfless sacrifice.
Here’s another report. This “Gun Violence Archive” site is run by anti-gunners but for what they report, the details and links to news stories is very helpful. They collect every shooting that is reported even DGU’s. This is the report from that incident.
Thank you, Byron, for your courage to do the right thing and setting the standard we must all strive for.
Amen. You saved lives, Byron.
