(NRA-ILA) – Following the lead of their presumptive presidential nominee, the Democratic Party is set to adopt a gun control plank in their 2016 party platform that lays bare the party leadership’s antipathy towards gun rights. The draft 2016 plank marks a significant shift in the party’s approach to the issue. Out is the lip service paid to the Second Amendment contained in the last several party platforms; the 2016 version is a forthright list of restrictive policies and an inflammatory tone common to the Democratic Party platforms of the 1990s.

Released July 1, the gun control plank of the draft 2016 Democratic Party Platform reads:

Gun Violence Prevention

With 33,000 Americans dying every year, Democrats believe that we must finally take sensible action to address gun violence. While gun ownership is part of the fabric of many communities, too many families in America have suffered from gun violence. We can respect the rights of responsible gun owners while keeping our communities safe. We will expand background checks and close dangerous loopholes in our current laws, hold irresponsible dealers and manufacturers accountable, keep weapons of war—such as assault weapons—off our streets, and ensure guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists, domestic abusers, other violent criminals, and those with severe mental health issues.

Notice that the plank does not mention the Second Amendment, or recognize the fact that it protects an individual right to keep and bear arms. This is a marked departure from the 2012 Democratic Party Platform, which held:

We recognize that the individual right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans’ Second Amendment right to own and use firearms.

The 2016 draft platform’s gun control plank also differs sharply from the 2008 Democratic Party Platform, which contains the sentence:

We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans’ Second Amendment right to own and use firearms.

Similarly, the 2004 Democratic Party Platform noted:

We will protect Americans’ Second Amendment right to own firearms…

More words, no mention of the Second Amendment (What Second Amendment?) and pledges to enact more Draconian (and failed) gun control schemes.

And they wonder why so many people refer to Democrats as the “Party of Gun Control”…

But even that plank isn’t extreme enough for Hillary Clinton – who worked in an “administration” that literally gave guns to Mexican drug lords.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has repeatedly made clear that she not only supports the severe gun control efforts outlined in the draft platform, but also rejects the Supreme Court’s ruling in the District of Columbia v. Heller, which held that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms. On separate occasions, Clinton called the landmark decision, “terrible,” and noted, “the Supreme Court is wrong on the Second Amendment and I am going to make that case every chance I get.

It’s up to you how to vote this November, but rest assured, there is only one candidate who is unabashedly pro-gun rights.

  1. At this point, I wouldn’t care if Trump came out saying he identifies as a goat while dressed in a chicken suit. As long as he sticks to his policies, I’m voting for him. He would really make my day if he started to say he will EO Constitutional carry across the nation. But I would be happy with national reciprocity too. Even though I’m not a fan of the whole “permission slip” system.

  2. Put Hillary on the boat tomorrow. She has proven time and again she has absolutely no qualifications for POTUS.

  3. Every, every time I see Wasserman’s face, it keep reminding me ,
I should be flounder fishing, somewhere,

  4. “It’s up to you how to vote this November, but rest assured, there is only one candidate who is unabashedly pro-gun rights.”

That statement is correct but you have the wrong picture.

Check out Gary Johnson’s stance on gun control, it is far more in line with the NRA and the US Constitution.

    Donny-boy, not so much.

“I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s Internet technology we should be able to tell within 72-hours if a potential gun owner has a record.”

    1. Gary is as principled as any professional politician. He may pay lip service to the second amendment now, but I wouldn’t bet on him standing behind it come November. Look how he described religious freedom vs freedom of association during the libertarian debate. Also, the way he lambasted Trump and talked about how he respected Hillary. Sickening.

    2. Piss away your vote on Johnson. You may as well pull the lever for hillary. A vote for anyone but Trump is a vote for Hillary.

  5. Ever notice how much Debby Wasserman Schultz and Chelsea Clinton look alike? That doggone Webb Hubbell is a rake and a scoundrel. But he as got a strong stomach and no morals for mounting Hellary Clinton.
