Surrendering one’s right to the most effective tool to stop bad people with evil in their heart doesn’t mean evil takes a vacation. Far from it, as evidenced by the knife attack in Japan where 19 were killed and dozens more wounded by an evil lunatic with a knife.
Simple-minded people might call for a ban on sharp knives to prevent such horrific occurrences, but that’s why they’re simple-minded.
(UK Telegraph) – A former care home worker stabbed 19 patients to death and wounded dozens more before handing himself in at a nearby police station, declaring “I want to get rid of the disabled.”
Japan was in shock on Tuesday following the knife attack, which took place at a care home for the disabled in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, about 25 miles southwest of Tokyo.
The killer was said to have smashed his way into the facility through a glass window and begun stabbing patients, apparently at random.
Except for the end of World War II, when Japanese authorities issues poorly-made rifles to civilians in anticipation of an Allied invasion of their mainland, Japan has had a long history of debarring the common man of possession of weapons. And once again, just because there are few legally-owned guns in Japanese society doesn’t mean that mass killings don’t occur.
If I am not mistaken, the world was a far more violent place before guns were invented.
