If you have a Democrat Illinois State Senator, call them Monday and urge them to support SB-206. Make that call. Many of the Democrat senators are undecided and your calls and contacts will make a difference.
We've got some Illinois State Senators in particular who need some iron supplements to strengthen their spines on the Suppressor bill, SB-206. Remind them:
"You can't be pro-gun if you don't vote pro-gun!"
Specifically:
- Champaign County area gun owners should call Scott Benett's office ( 217 ) 782 – 2507 and encourage him to support SB-206.
- Orland Park area gun owners should call Mike Hastings ( 217 ) 782 – 9595 and thank him for supporting SB-206.
- Peoria area gun owners should contact Dave Koehler ( 217 ) 782 – 8250 ( 217 ) 782 – 2115 and urge his support of SB-206.
- Quad Cities area gun owners should call John Sullivan ( 217 ) 782 – 2479 ( 217 ) 782 – 3088 and urge the same.
The Everytown crew (Million Moms, Moms Demand Action, Everytown, etc.), The Brady Bunch, the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and the back benchers are all throwing EVERYTHING they've got into defeating the suppressor bill.
They've got the idea in their head that just because they have been unable to pass a single piece of legislation that gun owners should trade the passage of one of their draconian pet bills (dealer licensing / gun rationing schemes, lethal violence restraining orders or similar) in order for us to get something. We don't subscribe to that position.
Guns Save Life will be in Springfield Monday and Tuesday working behind the scenes to help ensure passage. We'll be working side-by-side with the NRA, the NSSF and ISRA towards this goal.
Make those calls if you have a Democrat state senator.

HFA 6: Proponent
SB-1824 is an enhanced penalty bill. It provides for a 7-14 year mandatory sentence for violent felons who possess a firearm in the commission of a subsequent crime. Despite the bill's enormous loophole to allow deviations from this new enhancement, we as Guns Save Life support this bill and encourage our friends, members and supporters to do the same. The bill serves as a step in the right direction to sentencing reform to put away repeat violent offenders who use guns. The question is whether or not soft-on-crime Democrats will agree to these longer sentences for repeat offenders, or if they'll vote to protect violent criminal predators from enhanced sentences.
What prior convictions would make a bad guy eligible for these enhanced penalties? Here are some examples:
- aggravated unlawful use of a weapon
- unlawful use or possession of a weapon by a felon under 24-1.1
- first degree murder
- attempted first degree murder with a firearm or
- aggravated kidnapping with a firearm
- aggravated battery with a firearm
- aggravated criminal sexual assault under
- predatory criminal sexual assault of a child
- armed robbery
- vehicular hijacking
- aggravated vehicular hijacking
- home invasion
- aggravated discharge of a firearm
- aggravated discharge of a machine gun
Dipshit leadership at Illinois Carry is opposed to 1824.
Why would anyone be opposed to this?
I think the concern is that this bill would impose mandatory minimum sentences on non-violent felons, too.
Get convicted of a felony insider-trading charge, for example, and later be convicted of having a firearm, stun gun, dagger, switchblade, brass knuckles, etc. in your possession. A subsequent "catch" will land you in jail for 7-14 years. Although you are a felon, you haven't done anything violent–you simply have one of those evil weapons in your possession.
I am neither promoting nor opposing this bill–just explaining why there may be objections to it.
They misread it is the only thing I can think of…
Todd Vandermide supports it, good enough for me. Jim.
Just called my state sentor Dave Koehler. Have you called yours yet?? Make a difference!
