SUPPRESSOR BILL DROPPED: SB-50. Call your legislators.

1. "It also allows for denial of FOID applications for individuals found to be on the federal terror watch list." WTF? Isn't that the "secret" list that no one knows how you got put there and no practical way of getting off?

   1. FOID apps go through a NICS check presently.  If NICS check comes back with the applicant on the watch list, the application is denied.  This bill simply codifies current standard operating procedure.

   4. couple of things. All the bill does is say that if someone is on the watch list ISP MAY notify DHS if they apply for a FOID.

       

      Ever see the stats on how many people on the watch list have bought guns? You know the figure that VPC and Co bring out about twice a year to push for more background checks? So the varios agencies already talk to one another. We know that because the stats exist.

      If you get charges with an acto of terrorism, first I would dobt you're gonna get bail, but if you do the bond order will contain a ban on possessing firearms.

      the really funny thing about this, is that Harmon and company will not be forced to expalin a vote aginst a bill that talks about terror and guns. The liberals are gonna wet themselves over this.

       

      Illinois isn't perfect. controlled by Chicago dems and it is what it is. we need to do what we can to move the ball forward. not perfect, but its not bad

The terrorism charge has been played several times in recent years The Hammond’s in Oregon were charged with Terrorism for setting a backfire to protect their winter feed source after the BLM started a fire to burn them out. It was later discovered that Hillary made a deal through the State Department to sale the Uranium under the Hammonds land to a Canadian firm for a donation to her foundation. (do a search, Hillary and Uranium deal)

       

      After SC removed the Confederate battle flag some boys driving a pickup through a park were charged with terrorist threats for displaying the flag. The claim was Black families were in the park and the display was a terrorist threat to those families. So the Charge of Terrorism can be charged for many, many things. So If you are charged with terrorism for any event expect all H$LL to break loose you will loose your rights. I doubt anyone on this site has the $500,000 it will take to fight and win the case.  

      This is why I say we must not compromise or make concessions at this time.

2. It's unclear.   Can a non-hunter use a suppressor at a firing range or for plinking?

   1. yes you can use a can on a gun at the range no issue.

3. Hopefully someone will be find out they are wrongly on the watch list and they can bring suit to have that disaster stopped.

   That's a recent headline here. It blames democrats for the failure of SB-206 and makes it sound like we shouldn't trust pro-gun democrats.

   This bill is introduced by a democrat.

   I'm confused.

   1. I beleive the Democrats will pull a bait and switch. They will allow the bill to pass intn the House then they will amend the bill with a magazine ban or a Bullet tax or some other such nonsense pass it then send it to the House. Thats where we loose.

      The Democrats have pulled these types of bait and switch stunts before. They did with the so called gunshow loop-hole bill several years ago and our side seems to not understand the process.

      Now that said do we need a suppressor Bill passed the answer is yes; but we need a clean bill that is strickly adresses supressors. We know a federal bill has been introduced in the house. Lets see what happens at the Federal level and see if we cant get a clean bill.

      We need to think about REPEALING LAWS NOT ADDING TO THEM!!!!!

      Give me an example of them doing this.  Even ONE time, in the IL General Assembly.

      I'm waiting.

      Let's just say they take that trek…  they will have to pass the amendment and then pass the bill with the amendment.

      And then it would return to the other chamber for a concurrence vote.

      And the governor would have to sign it.

      That's a LOT of hypotheticals, Bill1.

   3. Well John if you read my comment you would have actually gotten that one example. So for the Northern gun owners in the audiaence I will repeat part of my comment. Several years ago Richard Pearson helped get a bill introduced into the General Assembly that was both a compromise/concession in order to improve gun rights in the State. The bill passed the House but was amended in the senate with the new version then going back to the House. The new amended version of the Bill was anti-gun and passed the House and became law. Pearson caught heck for the bill because it closed the so called gun show loop-hole.

      The Democrats pulled a bait and switch on the original bill by removing the pro-gun aspects of the bill through amendment and then passed the bill in th eHouse.  It happened!

      In my opinion we dont need to be making compromise or concessions on any piece of legislation.

      A supressor bill is in Congress and has a good chance of passing. Why should we pass a weaker bill in Illinois thus undermining a stronger Bill coming out of congress.

      the federal bill does nothing to change that it simply takes them out of the nfa that does nothing to undo the state phrohibition so we still bed a change in state llama and this I she begging of that

   5. Democrats aren't all bad on guns.  Many of the downstate Dems are good on guns.  Senator Bennett is not one, despite his (soon to be former if he doesn't get his head out of his ass?) A-rating.

   6. John, I got a call from Sen Bennett yesterday. From the conversation I found out he is for suppressorsale for hunting. He is opposed to them for handguns.  I stated suppressors are a good thing when shooting them outside at the gun range. He wouldn't bite. Then the topic went to what I own and what he owns on the farm. He only owns shotguns, no rifles or handguns. So that tells me he doesn't know what he is talking about when it comes to any other than "his shotguns". Maybe GSL needs to invite him to a meeting and present him with a handgun that is suppressor capable. Doubt if he would come

7. I know that Illinois has an outright ban on suppressors but The Federal Bill can give us political leverage to work toward a cleaner better bill.

   The current bill allows ownership of suppressors and for hunting purposes.

   What about other purposes? Why settle for a little when you can get more.

   Is Trump Compromising right now or is he playing hardball with the Dems and the media?

   Whats wrong with standing up for your Rights? Why is it that so many people in Illinois are willing to make a bad deal just to get a little of their rights restored. Have pride in the power that you have and use it.

   Trump won the white using social media.

   Why are the 2A groups in Illinois not doing the same to promote their cause?

   1. This bill will never pass. As a 37 yr former resident, no matter the amount of pro witness slips, phone calls, emails, protests, marches, etc. Chicago Democrats/Unions and all their little snowflake ( Yes Brady/Moms/Illinois Council against handgun violence group, you are a very special snowflakes ) citizens control IL. Tax and spend, tax and spend. Look what it took to get Concealed Carry approved, look at how they managed the extra money recieved from 5 yr state tax increase, here is a hint, they only used something like 10% for the actual purpose of the increase, most went to entitlement programs. Look at how much they gave to Sears/Comed. There are hundreds more of examples.. The only way to help IL is to move out and let it self implode.  Chicago Democrats/Unions are leaches sucking on the teat of every hard working citizen.

   2. The current bill allows for ownership

      it allows for use. You can hunt or practise with one on long guns no issue. On a handgun take it to the range, practise take it off go home. Not a lot of practicel hunting in Illinois with handguns outfitted with suppressors. So the only thing missing is in the home.

       

      its a start. Not perfect, but it's a start. And in Illinois we find we have to make small steps.

       

      the NFA repeal talk is actually making it harder to get this done.

   I do not remember the specifics of that bill or how it got passed.  Can you give me specifics?

    If this is true, I sure hope the Republicans (and downstate Democrats) append to the (liberal) Democrat bills legislation to promote pro-gun agendas. 

    1. There is a ton more to this whole story than we can post online. We think we have things under control, if not we'll see. 

        

       But do do you really want to beat up on your leaders who are trying to improve things and communicate the message to you?

        

       its Illinois, it's not going to be perfect but we open the door and continue to work on it

12. You know, I have sort of had it with some of the armchair quaterbacks on here that want to do nothing but complain about how Todd, John, NRA, GSL are not doing enough for gun owners. They are like a child throwing a temper tantrum for not getting their way. We live in Illinois folks. History has taught us that we have to chip away at some of these laws in small chunks. The whole all or nothing approach won't work. Period. It just will NOT work in Illinois.

    Todd and  John work tirelessly with what is given to them and how they can make lemonade out of the lemons being handed to them.  So these bills are not perfect, but it's a start. I'm start to liken the Liberals needing safe spaces to some posters on here wanting the rainbowns that they think exist in Illinois Legislation. 

    How about instead of critisizing and blaiming, you start thanking and supporting.  What do you think the other sides sees when they read these posts? And they are. They see division.  They then use this as ammo. "Your own organizations don't support these bills." " There is division within your ranks." If you don't think this is happening, then you are living in the land of rainbows, unicorn, and kittens. 

    I would also ask, what are you doing to ensure Illinois' 2A rights? Are you a member fo GSL, ISRA, or any other local 2A group? Are you calling your Congressmen? Are you filling out witness slips? Or are you just trolling the site and being a general pain in the ass?

    Walk just one day in the shoes of any lobbyist and you will see that it's not all as easy at it seems. Yeah, we all want rainbows and unicorns but sometimes we have to settled or Lucky Charms.

I see red flags with SB 50 (FOID CARD-REVOCATION-SUPPRESSOR).  One big one is that it has strings attached to our FOID.  Why make such risks to our current rights to get a suppressor bill passed that many gun owners like myself will never use?!  Two, Obama just made it possible for ALL agencies to share common data (like terror watch list-no fly list).  https://theintercept.com/2017/01/13/obama-opens-nsas-vast-trove-of-warrantless-data-to-entire-intelligence-community-just-in-time-for-trump/   So one mistakenly or unfairly gets tagged as a terrorist and knock,knock it's your local sherriff coming to seize your guns without due process.  Yep, good luck and lots of money getting your name off that list and guns back!

    I will just pass on calling my senator on this scary bill that opens our rights up to changes and interpretations and pray that it dies.  However, I forsee this passing easy, even with Chicago dems because they got us where they want us. I bet Madigan and Cullerton are laughing their butts off on this little gem of a bill.

    1. Loose lips sink ships. Telegraph our punches. Give data to the other side on where the pressure points to hurt us are. The only way to find out if those pressure points are compromised is to TRY, and if they are, THEN to try to work around them. And I ASSURE YOU, the ENEMY the anti’s are DEFINITELY reading this.        State Police may contact DHS if someone on the terrorlist applies for a FOID card

       FOID card will be revoked if a person is charged with an act of terrorism. 

        

       its all there in blck and white. now while some want only perfection and nervana, that ain't gonna happen. SO we can either try and enagage with the House & Senate or we can sit back while they hold all the bills waiting for us to buckle or they win a majority to pass what ever they want. 

        

       Yesterday I spoke to 30 gun owners at a meeting. laid out the bill and its componenets. not one complained. and they all supportered it
