AIN’T IN KANSAS, DOROTHY: Trio try armed home invasion over $300

There's stupid, Uber-stupid, and felony stupid.  Then there's three "urban youths" from Champaign-Urbana who think central Illinois is just like Chicago.  They got themselves a gun and decided they would commit a home invasion to recover $300 the rocket surgeon leader of the trio thought he was owed.  What did these three think?  Were they going to split up $300 in loot three ways?  Yeah, these boys were surely voted "most likely to succeed" at Harvard, right?

While home invasions may be commonplace in Chicago, downstate's a whole 'nother world.  Someone should have told these idiots they aren't in Kansas anymore.  And yes, someone needs to tell them everything because reading is hard for them.

URBANA — Three people were charged with attempted armed robbery and attempted home invasion following their arrests early Tuesday by Champaign police at a Campustown apartment building.

Assistant State's Attorney Joel Fletcher said Juwan Townsel, 19, of the 1300 block of North Lincoln Avenue, Urbana, apparently initiated the scheme to try to recover money he thought had been stolen from him at a party earlier this month and enlisted the aid of two friends.

Fletcher said about 12:05 a.m., three residents were inside their apartment in the 200 block of East Green Street when they heard pounding on their door and saw people in the hallway wearing masks.

Champaign police were called and learned that the three allegedly approached the apartment with a loaded gun and tried to get in.

Police had to pursue at least two of the three but eventually caught and arrested Townsel, who allegedly had the cocked and loaded gun in his pocket; Calvin Montgomery, 28, of the 1100 block of West Church Street, Urbana; and Brianna Samuels, 22, of the 500 block of East White Street, Champaign.
