The Chicago Tribune and Cook County prosecutors have gone full tilt against a concealed carry licenseholder who shot another man Tuesday morning.  Let's go to the tape, shall we?

Andres Rodriguez, aged 38, has a CCW and was carrying a .380 auto.  Rodriguez, pictured above, has worked as a teacher for twenty years.  Did I mention he possesses a CCW?

The Trib is quick to point out he shot another man seven times.

Then they mention in passing that the man he shot had a gun – and no concealed carry license was mentioned.  And nine paragraphs into the story, they mention that Rodriguez returned to the scene after police arrived, covered in blood.

So, while the Cook County SA's office gives a pass to teens who throw newborn babies to their death out of 8th floor windows, they're going after this law-abiding citizen with their hair on fire.

From the Tribune:

A Tinley Park man has been charged with attempted murder after he shot a man seven times with a handgun following a traffic incident Tuesday morning, authorities said.

A Cook County judge on Thursday afternoon set bail at $500,000 for Andres Rodriguez, 38, of the 18200 block of Kirby Drive, who prosecutors said allegedly shot the man multiple times with a .380 caliber handgun.

Rodriguez allegedly was walking during the early morning hours Tuesday in the 6900 block of 173rd Place in Tinley Park when he somehow struck the victim's car, prosecutors said. A physical fight between Rodriguez and the 25-year-old victim ensued shortly after Rodriguez ran away from the scene of the initial incident, prosecutors said.

During the fight, Rodriguez shot the victim seven times, prosecutors said. The victim remains in stable condition at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with gunshot wounds to his side, back, arm and behind the ear, prosecutors said. A bullet lodged in the victim's head currently cannot be removed surgically, prosecutors said.

Defense attorney William Fahy said during Thursday's bond hearing that his client "acted in self defense" and "did not flee from the scene." He described Rodriguez as a school teacher with 20 years of experience.

Rodriguez carries a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon, Fahy said.

Prosecutors allege Rodriguez pulled his gun during the fight and shot the victim, who fell to the ground. Then, Rodriguez allegedly stood over the victim and fired several more times, prosecutors said.

The victim lost conscious and woke some time later to find that the magazine from his own handgun had been removed, prosecutors said. The magazine was found a short distance away from the shooting, prosecutors said.

After police arrived, Rodriguez returned to the scene of the shooting with blood on him, prosecutors said.

  1. Lot of unknowns here really.Toolittle information tomake a judgement call.If the forensics shows he was standing over the guy shooting him he is in big trouble I'd say.

  2. I think… Given the very few real details here. I think I have to question wounds to the back, or behind the ear. Maybe he shot a lot more than needed to end the threat. Maybe I would have too. Lots of variable unaccounted for, some probably with intent others probably not released yet.

  3. I never believe liberal media on shootings. For example, they always rush to make cops look bad, but when the jury gets all the evidence, they are found not guilty.

  4. Maybe a good time for a CCW INSURANCE ad RIGHT HERE, J.B.?

This guy could be stuck in cook county jail for 3 years til trial – at which he'll be found not guilty, of course.  That's hell on earth.

  5. Never expect accuracy or fairness in firearm subjects by the Chicago Tribune.I learned that 30+ years ago and it stands true to the present day.

  6. A 2p year teacher going to flush his career & life over shooting someone for no reason?  Sounds fishy to me.

  7. Zimmerman case part 2. Just a new cast.

Unfortunately, these SA's have been waiting for this type of case to come their way. They are dying to make an example of a CCW holder and use it as a reason why citizens shouldn't carry guns. Either way, guilty or innocent, this guy is screwed.

  8. It's been a week.  Anyone find out any real information on this shooting?  I don't get any hits on Google.
