Cheer

Chicago – aka Murder City USA – suffers from an ongoing gang war.  Between gang bangers killing one another (and occasionally an innocent bystander), garden variety criminals prey on the everyday residents with impunity.  Simply put, there is no deterrence upon would-be criminals in Chicago from the criminal justice system.  Even if you're a felon illegally carrying a stolen pistol and you somehow manage to get arrested, you'll be released on your own recognizance.  If you beat a cop unconscious, expect time served plus 8 days.  Kill a promising student by bashing his head in with a brick, you'll serve less than four years in prison.

In fact, police have identified suspects in only 12 percent of Chicago's 600+ homicides so far in 2017.  That's not arrests.  That's not convictions.  Merely identified suspects.

Part of the "freebies" in that 12% are the justifiable homicides.

Team Blue in Chicago – the cops – have ten justifiable homicides to their credit so far this year.  Bad guys trying to run cops over, shoot them or threaten other innocent life have met their maker thanks to police bullets.

Team Armed Americans, civilian (well, non-police civilians) good guys and gals who use their legal guns to thwart violent criminal attack also stand at ten justifiable homicides in Chicago this year.  Ten burglars, home invaders, carjackers and armed robbers all received the biggest surprise of their life when would-be victims fought back.

With less than six weeks left in the year, the teams remain tied.

Which team are you cheering for?

Personally, I’m cheering for the civilians to win this match up.  Unlike a stupid football game, regardless of who tallies the biggest score in the friendly cops vs. civilians match-up, the law-abiding residents in Chicago win as each justifiable homicide means one less violent predator roaming the streets.

Let’s face it:  anyone dumb enough to try to run over a cop or brazen enough commit an armed robbery will never cure cancer or win the Nobel Peace Prize.  Pardon me if I don’t shed even a crocodile tear for the dead criminals.  You probably have better places to devote your compassion to as well.

So, go Team Armed Americans!

Feel free to offer which team you're cheering for in comments.

  1. Chicago just dumped its old civilian review board, IPRA (Independent Police Review Authority) and came up with a new one called COPA (Civilian Office of Police Accountability). COPA has been reopening closed IPRA cases, some of which are a decade old, in an attempt to hang officers for shootings that were ruled justifiable by IPRA (which was no friend of the police) at the time they occurred. So I'm rooting for team civilian. If a victim justifiably shoots someone, he will be cleared by an invesigation (even in Cook County), and that's it. He doesn't have to worry about it being reopened in twenty years (at least, not yet). The police, not so much.

  2. Ken's been quiet of late.  In fact, I think I actually saw a pro-police post a while back after Mandalay Bay.

    Maybe he had a fever?
