HB 1469 would ban the vast majority of standard capacity ammunition magazines in use today. Countless law-abiding gun owners who own firearms for self-defense rely on magazines that are over 10 rounds in capacity. Ask your state Representative to OPPOSE!
HB 1664 would allow people who may not be mental health professionals to anonymously contact the state police to suspend the Constitutional rights of individuals without proof. The burden of proof would then be on the accused to prove that they are not a danger with mental health evaluations at their own expense. HB 1664 is poorly thought out legislation without proper due process protections and is ripe for abuse. Ask your state Representative to OPPOSE!
HB 1465 would deny law-abiding young adults under the age of 21 their Second Amendment rights by prohibiting them from possessing or purchasing commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, standard capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, and .50 BMG caliber rifles. Because federal law prohibits adults under 21 years of age from purchasing handguns from dealers, this bill would deny them the firearms most effective for self-defense. Ask your state Representative to OPPOSE concurrence!
HB 1467 would weaken the firearm preemption law that has been in place since 2013. Firearm preemption laws ensure that fundamental Second Amendment rights are not diluted or distorted through controversial local policies and help prevent a confusing patchwork of gun control laws which make it difficult for gun owners to ensure that they are following the law. Furthermore, Second Amendment rights are guaranteed to all citizens, regardless of where they live. Ask your state Representative to OPPOSE concurrence!
Call the Secretary of the Senate at 217 782-5715 to oppose over-riding the governor's veto!
Senate Bill 1657 and House Bill 1273 would create an onerous gun dealer licensing scheme within the state. They go so far beyond federal law in its mandatory regulations and red tape imposed at the state level that they would almost assuredly force the closure of most firearm dealers and prevent prospective owners from opening new ones. Ask your state Senator to OPPOSE efforts to override Governor Rauner's veto!
Call Governor Bruce Rauner and urge him to veto HB1468!
HB 1468 would require a 72 hour waiting period for certain commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms and .50 BMG caliber rifles as well as prohibit their sale to non-residents. Current Illinois law requires a 72 hour waiting period for handguns and a 24 hour waiting period for long guns. The arbitrary distinction in this bill will cause confusion among firearm sellers about which long guns require a 72 hour waiting period. Ask Governor Rauner to VETO!

What have I done with my precious guns ? I've put wild game in the freezer, gave plenty to those that didn't have money for food, put down a beautiful young deer that was still dragging itself around in agony after losing both back legs after being hit by a car, used them as teaching tools to show children why they should never ever touch a gun without a competent adult present and what to do if they came upon a gun somehow, and about 4 years ago while stopping for a snack break outside of Atlanta I raised my jacket and showed my LEGALLY carried handgun to 5 "gentleman" that walked up and demanded our vehicle, belongings and money. Did I mention my young children and wife were inside ? Yeah, one of them was trying to open the passenger door demanding my wife unlock the door. Gun never left the holster and everyone walked away backwards telling me they were cool, I was cool, and was all smiles and very polite. I didn't just save my families lives I saved their lives as well because I have training ( available everywhere ) and self control.
Judging by the foul language and string of insults as well as the obvious anger and frustration boiling over I'd say YOU would probably NOT be someone who is stable enough to handle guns. I think you know you have anger issues and lack self control, you are projecting that onto others. Please keep in mind not everyone thinks and acts like you. Maybe you should seek help.
BTW…. More young people will be injured or killed by texting and driving than by gunshot wounds. maybe you should advocate phone / car prohibitions. Oh, knives will clai more lives than guns too. If you would like to debate please do so but show some class. Thank You.

WRONG !!! July 26 2016 a 26 year old man in Japan ( some of the worlds toughest "gun control" ) murdered 19 people and injured 26 in a KNIFE stabbing attack. NO so called "assualt weapon" used and the body / injury count was higher than Parkland.

Because "gun control" doesn't work. Take for example the NO GUNS sticker on the entry doors and the unarmed school staff. Those two forms of gun control failed every single time at every single school shooting. You want even more ? like maybe 2 stickers on each door ? Hello !!! I'll try to answer your questions. First of all we have THOUSANDS of regulations and gun laws ( federal, state, and local ) in America. Here's the problem…. Parkland is a great example of failures by all levels of law enforcement to do anything to stop the killer from buying guns. ( And I strongly support our law enforcement officers but this was a big fail ) the killer violated laws, made threats, commited felonies, and raised red flags galore and nobody put him on the do not sell list. Next example… in Chicago the police work very hard catching and locking up violent criminals only to have the revolving door justice system in cook County let them go even if they were caught with a gun or are a known gang member or on probation / parole so they go out and illegally get a fresh gun and commit more crimes. Next example.. It's a FEDERAL FELONY to go to a gun shop and try to buy a gun if the purchaser is a felon or mentally ill yet THOUSANDS of banned criminals go to gun stores, handle a gun and fill out the paperwork only to be denied and told NO gun for you !!! but guess what ? the person who commited the felony by trying to buy is NEVER tracked down and arrested, this has been the case forever. some may try again elsewhere and still no arrest !!!! then they go find one for sale on the street. Next example…Another felony is when criminals send someone else in with a clean record to buy them a gun. That's called a straw purchase and that's 2 felonies. still very few arrests until after a killing if the gun is found MAYBE the purchaser will be arrested again MAYBE. Now let me ask a few questions…. What more gun laws or regulations do you think we should have that will actually stop killings if we don't even enforce the THOUSANDS of laws we already have ? How will we get the bad guys to follow those laws ? how do we get bad guys to not violate the no murder laws ?
In reality politicians love to pander to fed up citizens and take the easy way out and get votes by slapping together new laws that LAW ABIDING people like us on this forum will follow because we are law abiding, criminals will still ignore, the justice system won't enfore, and the bad guys still don't end up on the list. Notice that none of the new "gun control" laws mention a single word about reporting crazies, longer prison for criminals, mental health, etc. Nope, they just keep piling on laws that law abiding gun owners have to follow to stay out of trouble and the killings keep happening.
BTW some facts…. Semi auto so called "assualt weapons" have been around for more than 100 years and up until 1968 you could buy anything you pretty much wanted without a background check at all. but mass killings in public about 30 years, why ? ( that's a whole nother can of thoughts !!! )

Number of so called assualt weapons owned by law abiding citizens is in the MILLIONS. if those guns were the problem wouldn't we have thousands of mass killings a week ? one more… Bump stocks are a great example of politicians taking the easy way out, there has to be hundreds of thousands of these things out in public but one was used in Vegas so Illinois goes goofy over bump stocks and the politicians gloat on look at what they've done to stop mass murder by demanding these are banned. total feel good do nothing crap that fools people who don't know the facts. I REALLY hope this helped.
Once you understand it is people, not firearms that are the danger you can answer your own question.
There are far more issues involved here than just firearms. These people who have recently done the newsworthy events have all been using psychotropic drugs. No one speaks of the how these drugs change brain chemistry. The not so newsworthy killings are often tied to illicit activity in high poverty areas.
But the cure is gun control?
The issue here is civil rights. Its just as important as the Montgomery Bus Boycott where Martin Luther King earned his chops. The proposals out there amount to harassment and discrimination against gun owners. This is oppression. It is someone putting their thumb on gun owners and saying "You are unworthy. This is bigotry.
This is worth fighting on principal.
100% agree, It is illegal nationwide to ban a person because of skin color, race, etc. and as of recently if you don't bake a cake for same sex couples or even refuse to cut a womans hair ( an actual case where a barber in Pennsylvania was sued and nearly run out of business by a woman who wanted a new hairstyle and went to a barber shop and the barber didn't even discriminate because she was a woman but told her " I never cut a ladies hair before and am afraid to mess it up so I won't cut it" ) but it's totally legal in Illinois to stick a sign on a door banning someone who is exercising a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT. I tell people all the time that I'm the only minority ( ccl holder ) in Illinois that can be legally discriminated against.
