So many years ago, when I applied to become an ISP-approved firearms instructor, I had to submit LiveScan fingerprints.

ISP waffled a while with the FOID Modernization Act but they’re now using those CCW-related prints with the FOID card for me to get automatic extensions every time I undergo a firearms purchase background check on top of the other daily background checks.

I got an email tonight, along with a similar text message.

This is to inform you that as a result of the background check associated with your recent firearm purchase, because you have fingerprints on file for this purpose, your FOID was renewed for up to 10 years from the date of the approved transaction. Please visit your Applicant Portal Dashboard to view your current expiration date and to see your eCard. Because FOID and FOID/CCL combination cards no longer have printed expiration dates, you will not receive a new card. Please see our frequently asked questions at the same website for the latest information on this and other FOID and CCL matters.

Yes, I detest the FOID card as much as anyone.  Unlike most, I suffered through a five- or six-hour deposition last October-ish with the Illinois Attorney General as part of GSL’s lawsuit challenging the FOID Act.  That is currently in front of the Fourth District Court of Appeals.

But this is one communication from ISP that I don’t mind getting.

Anyway, before this message, it had been quite a while since I’d gotten one of these.  May 30th in fact.

I need to up my game.

PRO-TIP:  Do NOT go out and spend $75-100 on Live Scan prints to get a “lifetime” FOID for two reasons.

First, from an actuarial standpoint, buying a 10-year license for $10 makes more cents.

Secondly, in about 3-4 years, Guns Save Life will have killed the FOID card at either the Illinois Supreme Court or the US Supreme Court.

Okay, let the AI chatbots submit comments about how the ISP is evil commence.
