ShotSpotter saved lives.  It let police and paramedics respond to the location where sensors detected gunfire.  At that point, thanks to modern medicine, lives would be saved.  It’s a shame when people die needlessly and it’s a tragedy when innocent people die needlessly.

Take Sierra Evans, the young woman with her life ahead of her pictured above.

From CWB Chicago:

In another development, the family of a woman who was found fatally shot in a South Side alley on Saturday morning has launched a GoFundMe to help pay her funeral expenses.

A neighbor called 911 around 9:30 a.m. Saturday to report that a woman had been lying in the same spot in his alley behind the 9500 block of South Avenue N since at least the day before, according to police dispatch records. Responding officers discovered the woman, 19-year-old Sierra Evans, had been fatally shot. Shell casings were lying next to her. No one reported the shots that killed Evans.

Like Horan Park, the 9500 block of South Avenue N was served by the city’s ShotSpotter network until, on the orders of Mayor Brandon Johnson, the company’s contract expired last week.

Evans’ uncle, Mark Abrams, established a GoFundMe to help cover the unexpected funeral expenses.

Her life probably could have been saved if she had received modern medical treatment.  But alas, nobody reported the gunshots and she died alone.

Also sad is that the family doesn’t have the money to bury her.  And even with a $1000 donation, they’ve still only accumulated $3700 on a gofundme.

This is an example of the costs – in lives lost – to Chicago residents thanks to the short-sighted inept Mayor Mayhem.

On one hand, Chicago residents voted for this scoundrel so they deserve what they get.  On the other hand, nobody deserves to get shot and killed.

  1. The family should call Mayor Brandon and see if he could dip into his hair and make up fund to bury this girl. Also, someone saw a body laying in the same place in public for at least a day before calling 911 ????
