Leave it to the legacy media to cast a defensive gun use in a negative light.  So it’s 2:10am.  An overnight employee of Walgreens has a carry license and recognizes that bad things happen after midnight.  Shoplifters load up on loot and employees go to confront the individual but it goes south when the man, 42 year old Mario Almendarez pulls a gun and threatens them.  Said (now former) employee shoots the bastard down like a rabid dog.

We have questions, starting with Mr. Almendarez.  Was he really from Chicago or was he one of Venezuela’s Tren de Agua (or whatever) exports?

Second question:  Could NBC have headlined this any more negatively?

Walgreens employee with concealed carry license fatally shoots theft suspect

No, a Walgreens employee shot a man who threatened to kill his coworkers after pulling a gun on them.

Here’s the part of the poisonous NBC 5 story:

A man who allegedly stole items from a south suburban Walgreens and pointed a gun at workers was shot and killed by an employee who possessed a concealed carry license, authorities said.

The shooting was reported at around 2:10 a.m. outside Walgreens, 522 Torrence Ave., in Calumet City. According to authorities, a 42-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman were approached by employees after exiting the store without paying for merchandise they had taken.

Employees took the merchandise from the woman, who fled the scene on foot. The man, however, displayed a handgun when he was approached, police said. In return, a Walgreen’s employee, who possessed a valid concealed carry license, opened fire, striking the suspect, according to authorities.

The suspect was found by police driving a vehicle in the 1600 block of Sibley Boulevard near Yates Avenue and taken to a local trauma center, where he later died, police said. He was identified as Mario Almendarez, of Chicago, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Of Chicago.  Sure.

As for the employee.  Seems a pretty safe bet that it’s now a “former” employee.

  1. Don’t care if you are Walgreens. Employee of the year chain wide, you’re expendable. They probably wouldn’t even send flowers to your funeral. Good job on the CCW holder. I notice no nention of gender. Was it a woman?

  2. “Displayed a handgun”. Uh-huh, he must have “produced” the handgun prior to displaying the handgun. F’n media.
