(GSL) – John Drummond from Wayward Son Custom Gun has donated a custom GSL-19 for our first Great Guns drawing of 2025. We’re still putting this together, but our intention at the moment is to pull the winning ticket at the Mattoon GSL meeting on February 13th, 2025.

It’s a custom pistol bordering on a tactical barbecue gun that will not only wow your friends, but flawlessly perform daily duty protecting you and your family. It’s sweet.

What is a barbeque gun?

From Recoil:

Summer is here and for some of us that means grilling season is in full-effect giving us the excuse to tote our BBQ guns.

If you are not from the South or Southwestern United States and have never spent any time living there, you are going to have a bit of a learning curve with this. The same thing applies for those of you who are new to firearms, or that proper BBQ has something to do with squirting sweetened ketchup on frozen beef patties or pieces of chicken before burning it on the Hibachi on your terrace.

That’s not barbecue, and it doesn’t deserve it’s own weapon. Take a seat and listen up: we’re going to learn ya about BBQ Guns.

The BBQ gun is a type of handgun every serious gun aficianado should own at least one of. It’s a bit fancier than your Typical Tactical Tupperware and is usually a revolver; if not, it’s an all steel auto pistol.

Engraving is common, but not required. Grips tend to be ivory, pearl, pewter, stag or a suitable man-made substitute that looks nearly as good — think Ivory Micarta. A fine hardwood is acceptable, too. BBQ guns can be finished in nickel, chrome, high polish blue, case hardening or have precious metal inlays. The end result is a classic and good looking pistol in your holster.

Suffice it to say that a barbeque gun is a fair bit fancier than your average, out-of-the-box defensive handgun.  Or cowboy gun.  Or 1911.

Here’s ours:

Who is John Drummond and why should you want this defensive pistol? He’s a military vet, former police officer and SWAT cop. He loves to make good guns better and had been building “race” guns and high end defensive handguns for years now.

This particular gun shoots right up there with custom defensive guns.  And it looks and feels just as good.

He also has a YouTube channel, “Wayward Son Custom.” Google it or visit:
www.youtube.com/@WaywardSonCustom
Then smash the “subscribe” button.

Here’s his video teasing the donation.

He’s working to hit 10,000 subscribers by next year and pledges to sweeten the pot if he hits that goal ahead of the drawing.

It’s a package deal, too. Gun, holster, mags, hard case, mag pouches, a Case EDC blade, a Fenix PD-36R or similar tactical flashlight (added by John Boch) and more.

And this one can be yours. Tickets are $10 each or 5/$40. You can pick them up at meetings starting in December.

Can’t make it to a meeting, but want to win this gun for as little as $10? Send a check to the address below and GSL’s Treasurer Joanne Chandler will send you back your stubs if you include a SASE. If you’re late, we’ll return your check.

  1. Very cool. I’ll buy some tickets for that! Sounds like the goodies it comes with are just an added bonus.

  2. Nice
Thank you from a board member of GSL. We are fighting for your right to defend yourself. The governor of this once great state has very deep pockets. Tho he says otherwise in public, it is very obvious that he means to prevent the law abiding citizens the means of self protection. We need all of the help we can get to put a stop to the tyrannical gun grabbers. But for some reason they seem to ignore the criminal aspect and suggest that gangbangers are this way because the man has oppressed them.
    Thank you.

  3. Not sure this would be my idea of a Bar B Que gun as mine are influenced by Texas traditions meaning heavily engraved and gold filled. (Southern flash for Souther trash). It doesn’t mean I won’t buy tickets for this gun however.
