Chicago cops responded to a burglary in progress call early Saturday morning. A guy celebrated his 24th birthday the day before by (allegedly) breaking into homes to steal stuff that didn’t belong to him. He tried pounding on the door while yelling “POLICE” but that ruse didn’t work. The homeowner’s son had a carry license and apparently shot the would-be intruder.
The CCW holder apparently did something wrong because cops arrested him. Or maybe he didn’t and they arrested him anyway? Who knows. Oftentimes Chicago can be antagonistic towards self-defense rights.
The good news is nobody innocent was injured or killed.
CWB Chicago has more:
Chicago police officers responding to a “burglary in progress” call found a man fatally shot in the backyard of a South Shore home overnight.
CPD took someone into custody at the scene, but they did not receive any calls of shots fired before they found the victim, who celebrated his 24th birthday on Friday. The shooting occurred in a neighborhood that was monitored by the city’s ShotSpotter network until Mayor Brandon Johnson deactivated the system on September 24.
According to dispatch recordings, a homeowner called 911 around 4:30 a.m. to report that someone was trying to break into his house by the side door. Officers were told the possible intruder was pounding on the door, screaming “police,” and they were also advised that the caller’s son had a concealed carry license.
When cops arrived around 4:40 a.m., they noticed a man down on a back porch. After taking a closer look, they realized he had been shot, and they summoned an ambulance. According to CPD, the gunshot victim died at the University of Chicago Hospital.
Officers at the scene seized a firearm from a man they took into custody at the scene. CPD said charges were pending as of Saturday morning.
