The US Department of Justice tried firing a shot over the bow of Illinois and our hard left jurisdictions in Chicago and Cook County over their laws/ordinances prohibiting state, county and local law enforcement from working with ICE to depart illegal alien criminals. And they are all criminals – felons to be exact. Some are just more criminal than others.
That shot fell on deaf ears as Governor JB Pritzker proudly said that ICE would have to come “through him” to get to illegals in Illinois.
Well, Governor Silver Spoon just have been busy shoving pizza, chicken wings and Wagyu beef into his piehole, because he hasn’t been placing himself between federal immigration agents and the criminals they are seeking.
Now, the DOJ has had enough. Illinois, Cook County and Chicago FAFO’d and now they’re going to pay the piper. This morning, the DOJ filed suit in federal court to enjoin those laws.
Per CNN:
The Trump administration sued officials in Illinois, Chicago, and Cook County on Thursday over policies that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement authorities, accusing them of obstructing its immigration crackdown.
It’s the first major challenge from the administration against Democratic-led cities and states that have opposed the use of local law enforcement to help the federal government enforce civil immigration laws. Trump officials have repeatedly criticized those policies, often singling out Chicago, where the administration recently conducted an immigration enforcement operation.
The Justice Department has said it plans to be aggressive against so-called sanctuary cities — a term broadly applied to places that have policies designed to limit cooperation with or involvement in federal immigration enforcement actions.
“The challenged provisions of Illinois, Chicago, and Cook County law have the purpose and effect of making it more difficult for, and deliberately impeding, federal immigration officers’ ability to carry out their responsibilities in those jurisdictions,” the lawsuit states.
“The Supremacy Clause prohibits Illinois, Chicago, Cook County, and their officials from obstructing the Federal Government’s ability to enforce laws that Congress has enacted or to take actions entrusted to it by the Constitution,” the lawsuit reads.
Here’s the filing. The best part? The US DOJ is asking for the defendants – Illinois, Cook County and Chicago – to PAY FOR THE LAWSUIT!
Wait….whaaa? You mean there are consequences to your words and consequences? Who knew?
To be fair. JB Hippo has had a lot on his plate…..haaaa I crack myself up.
In other words, the taxpayers would have to pay for the lawsuit.
